IPL2025: SRH stumble again as Mumbai Indians win & reach top 4 in points table
Mumbai Indians continued their impressive comeback in IPL 2025 by registering their fourth consecutive victory. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the team once again defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in a dominant fashion, marking their second one-sided win over them this season. The match took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, where MI’s pace duo—Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar—put on a stellar performance in the powerplay, restricting SRH to a modest total of just 143 runs. In response, veteran opener Rohit Sharma played a crucial role by scoring another brilliant half-century, helping the team chase down the target comfortably in the 16th over.
The match, held on Wednesday, April 23, was an opportunity for Sunrisers Hyderabad to avenge their previous defeat against Mumbai. However, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, SRH once again faltered with the bat. After being put in to bat first, their innings crumbled early as they lost 4 wickets for just 13 runs inside the powerplay. Boult and Chahar (2/12), opening the bowling for Mumbai, dismantled the top order, each picking up two wickets. Boult dismissed two of the most dangerous batters, Abhishek Sharma (8) and Travis Head (0), putting MI in a commanding position.
Soon after, Aniket Verma also departed in the 9th over, leaving the score at a dismal 35. It was then that Heinrich Klaasen and impact substitute Abhinav Manohar steadied the innings. The pair stitched together a crucial 99-run partnership over the next 10 overs, bringing SRH to a somewhat respectable position. Klaasen scored a well-crafted 71 off 44 balls, while Manohar added a valuable 43. Boult returned in the 20th over to pick two more wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 4/26.
In the chase, Mumbai also lost an early wicket as opener Ryan Rickelton was dismissed in the second over. However, the loss had little impact. Former captain Rohit Sharma, who had returned to form in the previous match, played another fine knock. He shared a 64-run stand with Will Jacks (22) for the second wicket. After Jacks' dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit and together they kept the scoreboard ticking. Rohit completed his second consecutive fifty of the season in just 36 balls. Though he fell for 70 off 46 balls just before the finish line, Suryakumar (40* off 19) sealed the victory with a boundary on the fourth ball of the 16th over.
