IPL2025 : Gujarat Titans juggernaut rolls on as KKR bites the dust again , Gill shines

Stopping Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 is beginning to look not just difficult but almost impossible. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the team has now defeated reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs at their home ground, Eden Gardens. Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 198 runs in their 20 overs. In response, KKR’s batting lineup faltered, suffering their fifth loss of the season. On the other hand, Gujarat has now won 6 out of 8 matches and currently sits at the top of the points table.

The hero of Gujarat's win was none other than captain Shubman Gill, who scored a brilliant 90 off 55 balls. His opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, contributed a solid 52 runs off 36 deliveries. Jos Buttler added a quickfire 41 off just 23 balls.

After their strong batting performance, Gujarat backed it up with impressive bowling. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan, and R Sai Kishore all made impactful contributions with the ball. KKR’s explosive opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz could manage only 1 run, while Sunil Narine scored 17. Venkatesh Iyer struggled with a sluggish 14 off 19 balls, failing to hit a single boundary. Andre Russell scored 21 off 15 deliveries, but it wasn’t enough.

Surprisingly KKR did not use their in form batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi.  Angkrish was made to bat at number 9 when the result of the game was pretty much decided . He came in as an impact substitute and struck a crisp 20 in 10 balls & proved that he should have been sent earlier when others were struggling .

So far this season, Gujarat has defeated Mumbai by 36 runs, crushed RCB by 8 wickets, dominated Hyderabad with a 7-wicket win, thrashed Rajasthan by 58 runs, beat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets, and now taken down KKR by 39 runs.

Rahane points out reasons for the loss

Ajinkya Rahane admitted that while 198 was a challenging total, it was still chaseable. However, he pointed out that a poor start and a failed batting performance cost KKR the game. He acknowledged that the pitch was slow but believed the middle overs could have been handled better. Overall, Rahane seemed to place the blame on the openers and also criticized the team’s fielding, which he said added to their downfall.
