IPL2025 : Mumbai Indians script clinical win vs LSG as Bumrah gets 4/22
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians once again proved why they are one of the most successful franchises in IPL history. After a poor start to the IPL 2025 season, Hardik Pandya’s team bounced back in style, registering their fifth consecutive victory. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai delivered a commanding performance across all departments to crush Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs. Stellar half-centuries from Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton set the platform, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Will Jacks sealed the win with outstanding bowling displays. With this victory, Mumbai Indians also became the first team to achieve 150 wins in IPL history.
Chasing Mumbai’s target, Lucknow’s innings suffered an early setback in the third over when the in-form opener Aiden Markram was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. Mitchell Marsh (34) and Nicholas Pooran (27) tried to steady the ship with some fine strokes and kept the scoreboard ticking. However, the tide turned in the seventh over when Will Jacks (2/18) struck twice in three balls, removing Pooran and captain Rishabh Pant (4), putting Lucknow under severe pressure.
Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni (35) fought back aggressively, taking Lucknow past the 100-run mark by the 10th over, raising hopes of a thrilling contest. However, Trent Boult (3/20) shattered those hopes by dismissing both set batsmen in consecutive overs, firmly tilting the match in Mumbai's favor.
Jasprit Bumrah (4/22) returned in the 16th over to wreak havoc, dismissing David Miller (24), Abdul Samad, and another batsman in quick succession, completely dismantling Lucknow’s chase. Finally, Trent Boult wrapped up the innings by bowling out Digvijay Rathore on the last ball of the 20th over, bundling Lucknow out for 161.
This dominant victory not only strengthened Mumbai Indians' playoff chances but also reaffirmed their reputation as masters of comebacks under pressure.
