IPL2025 : Gill , Siraj powers Gujarat Titans to crushing win over SRH
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans continue their impressive run in IPL 2025. In their fourth match of the season, the Titans outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad with a commanding 7-wicket win. This marked Hyderabad’s second home defeat of the season and their fourth overall. Led by Pat Cummins, the Sunrisers have now suffered four consecutive losses. Gujarat, meanwhile, notched up their third successive win, climbing to second place on the points table. The star of the show was Mohammed Siraj, who ironically hails from Hyderabad and delivered a match-winning performance against his hometown team. Gill also played a crucial role with a composed and classy knock under pressure.
The match, played on Sunday, April 6, saw yet another collapse from Hyderabad's batting unit. After a strong showing in their opening match, their famed top-order has failed to deliver in successive games. This time, their downfall was triggered by none other than local boy Mohammed Siraj, who wreaked havoc at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium with a fiery spell, claiming 4 wickets for just 17 runs.
Siraj struck early, removing Travis Head (8) in the very first over, and sent Abhishek Sharma (18) back in the fifth. Ishan Kishan (17) also fell cheaply to pacer Prasidh Krishna, who bowled a tidy spell (2/24). At 50/3 by the 8th over, Hyderabad's innings was in trouble. Heinrich Klaasen (27) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (31) tried to steady things, but tight bowling from R Sai Kishore (2/25), Prasidh, and Rashid Khan kept them in check. Aniket Verma chipped in with 18, before captain Pat Cummins smashed 22 off just 9 balls to lift the total to 152.
Gujarat’s chase didn’t begin well either, as both Sai Sudharsan (5) and Jos Buttler (0) were dismissed early, leaving the team at 16/2 by the fourth over. It looked like Hyderabad might make a comeback, but Gujarat played a bold move by promoting Washington Sundar—making his first appearance this season—to bat at No. 4. Although he wasn’t given the ball, he made an immediate impact with the bat, smashing 20 runs off Simarjeet Singh in the fifth over, giving Gujarat the momentum they needed.
From there, Sundar and Gill took control, building a strong foundation. Gill notched up his first fifty of the season off 36 balls, while Sundar narrowly missed his, scoring 49 off 29 deliveries. Ironically, Sundar had been a part of the Sunrisers’ squad last season, and his innings all but sealed their fate in this match. The duo shared a 90-run stand.
In the end, Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford came in and finished the job with a flurry of big hits, guiding Gujarat to victory in just 16.4 overs. Gill remained unbeaten on 61, while Rutherford smashed an explosive 35* off only 16 balls.
