IPL 2025 : Punjab Kings continue their dominance, beat LSG in Style
Punjab Kings once again won the hearts of their fans with a stellar performance in IPL 2025. A change in captaincy has transformed the team’s approach, and under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, they showcased an aggressive style of play. Thanks to Iyer’s composed innings and Prabhsimran Singh’s explosive half-century, Punjab Kings comfortably defeated Lucknow Super Giants on their home turf.
Batting first, Lucknow posted a total of 171 runs, but Punjab chased it down with ease. They reached the target in just 16.2 overs, hitting 11 sixes and 16 fours along the way.
With this victory, Punjab Kings secured their second consecutive win in IPL 2025, climbing to second place in the points table. Bengaluru sits at the top, followed by Punjab and Delhi Capitals in third. Notably, Punjab, Bengaluru, and Delhi are the only teams yet to lose a match this season.
Prabhsimran and Iyer Shine with the Bat
Punjab Kings had a shaky start as opener Priyansh Arya was dismissed for just 8 runs. However, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer quickly turned the game around with their aggressive batting. The duo stitched together an 84-run partnership for the second wicket, putting Lucknow’s bowlers under immense pressure.
Prabhsimran reached his half-century in just 24 balls and went on to score 69 runs off 34 deliveries, smashing 3 sixes and 9 fours. Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 3 fours. Impact player Nehal Wadhera, batting at No. 4, played a blistering knock of 43* off 25 balls, which included 4 sixes and 3 fours.
In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh was the standout performer, picking up 3 wickets for 43 runs in his 4-over spell. Lockie Ferguson (1/26), Glenn Maxwell (1/22), Marco Jansen (1/28), and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/33) also contributed with crucial breakthroughs.
Lucknow’s Batting and Bowling Falter
Lucknow Super Giants struggled in both batting and bowling. Their opener, Mitchell Marsh, was dismissed on the very first ball. Aiden Markram got off to a decent start but could only manage 28 runs. Nicholas Pooran played a crucial knock of 44 but threw away his wicket with an unnecessary shot. Captain Rishabh Pant disappointed with just 2 runs, falling to a soft dismissal off Maxwell’s bowling.
Ayush Badoni (41) and Abdul Samad (27) provided some late fireworks, helping Lucknow reach 171, but the total was never going to be enough against Punjab’s in-form batting lineup.
On the bowling front, only leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi managed to impress, picking up 2 wickets for 30 runs. The rest of Lucknow’s bowlers struggled, failing to take a single wicket. Shardul Thakur, Ayush Badoni, Ravi Bishnoi, and Manimaran Siddharth all had an underwhelming outing.
Punjab’s dominant win solidifies their place as a strong contender in IPL 2025, and with their aggressive style of play, they will be a team to watch in the upcoming matches.
