IPL2025 : Punjab Kings script breathtaking win in a thriller vs KKR
A nail-biting clash unfolded on Tuesday between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), with Punjab clinching a thrilling 16-run victory at the Mullanpur ground. Defending a mere 111 runs, PBKS scripted history by successfully defending the lowest total ever in IPL history. For Punjab, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets while Marco Jansen claimed three. Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, and Glenn Maxwell contributed with one wicket each.
Chasing the modest target, KKR had a disastrous start as Sunil Narine (5) and Quinton de Kock (2) were dismissed by the second over. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (37) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (17) stitched a 55-run partnership for the third wicket, briefly putting KKR in control. But Chahal turned the tide by removing both Rahane and Raghuvanshi. In the 12th over, he dealt a double blow by dismissing Rinku Singh (2) and Ramandeep Singh (0), pushing KKR onto the backfoot.
Andre Russell tried to revive the chase, smashing two sixes and a four off Chahal in the 13th over to keep KKR’s hopes alive. But with 17 runs needed, Arshdeep removed Vaibhav Arora (0) in the 15th over, bringing PBKS closer to victory. Marco Jansen sealed the win on the first ball of the 16th over by clean-bowling Russell. This marked Punjab’s fourth win of the season.
Earlier, PBKS won the toss and opted to bat first but were bowled out for 111 in 15.3 overs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh top-scored with 30 runs. Punjab had a brisk start but collapsed after the fourth over. Harshit Rana dismissed Priyansh Arya (22) and captain Shreyas Iyer (0) in the same over, triggering a slump. Josh Inglis (2) and Nehal Wadhera (10) failed to contribute significantly. Punjab lost six wickets for just 76 runs. Batting at number eight, Shashank Singh scored 18 to take the team past 100. Harshit Rana ended with figures of 3 for 25 in his three-over spell. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine took two wickets each, while Vaibhav Arora and Anrich Nortje claimed one apiece.
