IPL2025 : KL Rahul masterclass shuts RCB as Delhi Capitals win again

Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a crushing defeat at home for the second consecutive time. In their fifth match of IPL 2025, RCB went down to Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets. The game was held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where once again RCB's batting failed to fire after being put in to bat first, managing only 163 runs. The spin duo of Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav played a crucial role in restricting the hosts. Later, KL Rahul struck his second consecutive half-century to guide Delhi to victory.

The match, played on Thursday, April 10 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw Bangalore losing the toss and being asked to bat first—just as they had against Gujarat Titans in their previous game, which also ended in defeat. Although RCB started well this time, with Phil Salt launching a blistering attack that pushed Delhi onto the back foot—including a massive 30-run over off Mitchell Starc—things turned around in the fourth over.

A miscommunication between Virat Kohli and Salt led to Salt’s run-out, after which RCB's innings lost momentum. Wickets kept tumbling as Vipraj Nigam, Mukesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav choked the scoring during the middle overs. Even skipper Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma failed to make an impact. In the end, Tim David played a quickfire knock of 37 runs off just 20 balls, taking the total to a somewhat competitive 163.

In reply, Delhi had a shaky start, losing 3 wickets for just 30 runs by the fifth over, thanks to early strikes by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal. Captain Axar Patel also departed at 58, leaving Delhi in a tight spot. It was then that KL Rahul stepped up, steadying the innings alongside Tristan Stubbs. The duo cautiously built the innings, and by the 14th over, Delhi had reached 99, still needing 65 runs in the final 6 overs.

With rain looming and Delhi falling behind on the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) par score, Rahul shifted gears. He took on Josh Hazlewood in the 15th over, smashing 22 runs to not only bring up his fifty but also put Delhi firmly in control. From there on, Rahul and Stubbs tore into the RCB bowling attack, consistently finding the boundaries. Player of the match ,  Rahul sealed the victory in the 18th over with a towering six, remaining unbeaten on 93 off just 53 deliveries. Stubbs supported well with a valuable 38-run knock.
