IPL2025 : Harshal , Kamindu powers SRH to crucial win over CSK

The Chennai Super Kings' famed stronghold, Chepauk, has completely collapsed in IPL 2025. After defeats to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad have now also tasted victory on this ground. Led by Pat Cummins, the Sunrisers registered their third win of a struggling season with a five-wicket triumph over Chennai, thanks to brilliant performances from Harshal Patel and Kamindu Mendis. The win also helped Hyderabad climb up the points table.

Played on Friday, April 25, the match featured the two bottom-ranked teams of the tournament. Sunrisers (9th) and Chennai (10th) were both desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Sunrisers emerged victorious and pushed Chennai to the brink of elimination. With three wins from nine matches, Hyderabad moved up to 8th place, while Chennai, with their seventh loss in as many games, remained at the bottom.

Harshal’s Heroics at Chepauk

Sunrisers won the toss and chose to bowl first, and Mohammad Shami gave them a dream start by taking a wicket on the very first ball. Chennai’s young batter Ayush Mhatre (30) launched a quick assault but fell during the powerplay. By the time the score reached 47, three wickets had already fallen. Debutant Dewald Brevis (44) initially played cautiously but soon went on the offensive with a flurry of sixes. However, Kamindu Mendis pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss him. After that, Harshal Patel (4/28) and Pat Cummins (2/21) kept the scoring in check, bowling Chennai out for 154 in 19.5 overs.

Sunrisers’ chase also began poorly with Abhishek Sharma falling for a duck on the second ball. But Travis Head (19) and Ishan Kishan steadied the innings with a brief but vital partnership. Head was bowled by a brilliant delivery from Anshul Kamboj, but Kishan played his second-best knock of the season — scoring 44 off just 34 balls — to keep the team in the hunt. Heinrich Klaasen (7) and Aniket Verma (19) couldn’t do much, and by the time the score reached 106, five wickets were down. That’s when Kamindu Mendis (32*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19*) stitched together an unbeaten 49-run stand in 29 balls to seal the victory in the 19th over.
