IPL2025 : Pooran leads LSG to crucial win over favourites Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans have faced defeat after four consecutive wins, marking only their second loss of the IPL 2025 season. On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants, who had already lost two matches, have now matched Gujarat with four victories.

Defying expectations, Lucknow Super Giants have continued their strong performance this season. Despite skipper Rishabh Pant's struggles with the bat, Lucknow secured their fourth win. In a thrilling encounter at the Ekana Stadium, LSG defeated Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets in a match that went down to the final over. While Gujarat’s winning streak ended after four consecutive victories, Lucknow notched up their third straight win. The stars of the show were Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, who smashed explosive half-centuries, while Shardul Thakur and other bowlers ensured a remarkable comeback.

The batting pattern of both teams followed a similar trajectory at the Ekana Stadium. Batting first, Gujarat crossed the 100-run mark within the first 10 overs, but Lucknow's bowlers staged a strong comeback in the remaining overs. Similarly, when Lucknow began their chase, they too raced past 100 in 10 overs, but Gujarat’s bowlers brought the match to the wire with a solid fightback.

Sudharsan-Gill Shine, Others Falter

For Gujarat, captain Shubman Gill (60) and Sai Sudharsan (56) gave a powerful start. Both struck impressive half-centuries and added 120 runs in just 12.1 overs — the highest partnership for any wicket this season. However, Gill’s dismissal in the 13th over triggered a collapse, with Lucknow bowlers tightening their grip. Gujarat kept losing wickets and the run rate slowed. Shardul Thakur (2/34) capped the innings with a brilliant final over, dismissing Sherfane Rutherford (22) and Rahul Tewatia (0) on consecutive deliveries, restricting Gujarat to 180.

With Mitchell Marsh unavailable for the match, Rishabh Pant (21) opened the innings for Lucknow. While he managed to score some runs, it wasn’t enough, and he was dismissed in the 7th over. However, Aiden Markram kept the scoreboard ticking with another blazing half-century off just 26 balls. Nicholas Pooran joined the party with a six-laden 23-ball fifty. Together, they took LSG past 120 within 11 overs. Markram (58) was dismissed in the 12th over, followed by Pooran (61) in the 16th, as Gujarat’s spinners clawed the match back into a tense finish. But in the end, Ayush Badoni (28*), with a four and a six in the final over, sealed a third consecutive victory for Lucknow.
