IPL2025 : RCB outplayed Punjab Kings in return match , Kohli , Paddikal, spinners shine
Match 37 of IPL 2025 was played between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. In a strong performance, RCB secured a comfortable win and also avenged their earlier loss to Punjab this season. The two teams had previously faced off on April 18, when Punjab had bowled out RCB for just 95 runs at their home ground and won the match by 5 wickets. However, this time, it was RCB who dominated.
RCB’s captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first — a decision that worked perfectly for his side. RCB bowlers managed to restrict Punjab to a modest total. Punjab Kings posted 157 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh was the top scorer for Punjab with 33 runs, while Shashank Singh remained unbeaten on 31. Josh Inglis added 29 runs, and Marco Jansen contributed an unbeaten 25.
For RCB, Krunal Pandya emerged as the most successful bowler. He bowled a tidy 4-over spell, conceding only 25 runs and picking up 2 wickets. Suyash Sharma also claimed 2 wickets for 26 runs in his 4 overs. Romario Shepherd took 1 wicket, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled economically but remained wicketless.
Chasing 158, RCB had a shaky start as Phil Salt was dismissed for just 1 run. However, a match-winning partnership between Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal turned the game around. Both batters scored half-centuries. Padikkal smashed 61 runs off 35 balls at a strike rate of 174.28, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. Kohli remained unbeaten on 73 off 54 deliveries, including 7 fours and a six. RCB chased down the target with ease, losing only 3 wickets.
This victory marked RCB’s fifth win in 8 matches, bringing them to 10 points, now tied with four other teams. Meanwhile, Punjab suffered their third loss in 8 games.
