IPL 2025: KKR vs PBKS Match Abandoned Due to Rain, Fustration for both teams

The IPL 2025 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended without a result after being abandoned due to rain. The match was played on Saturday, April 26, at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Punjab Kings, batting first, posted an imposing total against the home team. However, just as Kolkata's innings began, rain interrupted play. Despite a wait of nearly an hour and a half, the umpires eventually decided to call off the match. This was the first abandoned game of the season, and it has made KKR's road to the playoffs even tougher.

The Eden Gardens witnessed a relatively sparse crowd for this match, a scene that has been seen earlier in the season as well. KKR did not receive the strong home support they were hoping for. The fans who did turn up were soon silenced by the explosive opening partnership of Punjab’s young duo, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, who once again provided a flying start for their team.

Playing his debut season, Priyansh Arya (69 runs) launched into an aggressive innings from the start, giving Punjab quick momentum. Along with Prabhsimran, he stitched a solid half-century stand within the Powerplay. Priyansh was relying more on timing & playing less risk cricket shots . He was finding the gaps with ease & scored at a brisk pace  . It was a more matured innings from him as well as Prabsimran

Although the scoring rate dipped briefly, the pair accelerated again from the 10th over. Priyansh hammered a 27-ball fifty — his second fifty-plus score of the season. At the other end, Prabhsimran Singh also brought up a superb half-century. The duo put together a partnership of 120 runs in just 11.5 overs before Priyansh was dismissed. Prabhsimran carried on the onslaught, scoring a brilliant 83 runs, helping Punjab post a strong total of 201 runs in 20 overs.

In reply, KKR could only complete the first over of their innings before rain interrupted. Once it started, the rain did not stop. Finally, around 11 PM, the umpires decided to abandon the match, resulting in both teams sharing points. The result benefitted Punjab Kings, who climbed from fifth to fourth place with 11 points. However, KKR remains stuck at 7 points, holding the seventh position. Already trailing in the playoff race, the defending champions now face a must-win situation — they will need to win all their remaining 5 matches to have a realistic chance of making it to the playoffs.
