IPL2025 : Gujarat Titans register clinical win over table toppers RCB in away game , Siraj , Buttler shines

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who had a stellar start to IPL 2025 with back-to-back wins in Kolkata and Chennai, suffered their first loss of the season at home. Playing their first match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, April 2, RCB was handed a resounding 8-wicket defeat by Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, in Match 14 of the tournament. The standout performer in Gujarat’s victory was pacer Mohammed Siraj, who had been an integral part of RCB for seven years before joining Gujarat this season.

Gujarat's Bowlers Set the Foundation

Before this clash, RCB held a slight edge over Gujarat in head-to-head encounters, having won three out of their five previous meetings. However, Gujarat seized the opportunity to level the record with a dominant display. Their bowlers set the tone early, dismantling RCB’s top order within the powerplay. Despite some sloppy fielding, the bowlers made up for it with their disciplined attack.

Siraj Wreaks Havoc on RCB’s Batting Lineup

One of the most anticipated matchups was between former teammates Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli. However, fans were deprived of this contest as Kohli (7) fell early in the second over to Arshad Khan. Siraj, however, made his mark by troubling his former team, much to the disappointment of RCB supporters at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. By the seventh over, RCB was struggling at 42/4, with key wickets of Kohli, Phil Salt, and captain Rajat Patidar gone. Siraj was instrumental in this collapse, delivering a brilliant spell of 3 overs, conceding just 15 runs and picking up 2 wickets.

Gujarat’s Chase: A Comfortable Victory

Unlike their last two matches, where RCB’s bowlers dominated the powerplay, they failed to replicate that performance this time. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood bowled with some control, Gujarat’s Sai Sudharsan (49) and Shubman Gill (14) counter-attacked with timely boundaries. Bhuvneshwar managed to dismiss Gill early at 32 runs, but Sudharsan, along with Jos Buttler, ensured there were no further hiccups in the chase.

RCB introduced a ball change in the 13th over, and Hazlewood managed to deny Sudharsan his half-century. However, the match was already slipping out of RCB’s grasp. Buttler switched to an aggressive mode, receiving support from Sherfane Rutherford, who joined him in an unbeaten 63-run partnership. Buttler’s explosive 73* off just 39 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes, sealed the win for Gujarat in just 17.5 overs. Rutherford remained unbeaten on 30 off 18 balls, completing a dominant victory for the Titans.
