IPL2025 : Mumbai Indians thrash KKR as a new star is born
After suffering two consecutive losses, Mumbai Indians finally secured their first victory in IPL 2025 with a dominant performance at home, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets. The foundation of Mumbai’s win was laid by their bowlers, particularly debutant Ashwini Kumar, who delivered a sensational performance, claiming 4 wickets for just 24 runs. Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult also bowled brilliantly, restricting Kolkata to a mere 116 runs in 16.2 overs.
Chasing the modest target, Mumbai Indians made quick work of it, reaching the total in just 12.5 overs. Riley Rickelton played a strokeful match-winning knock, scoring an unbeaten 62 off 41 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav provided the finishing touch with a blistering 27* off just 9 deliveries.
Kolkata’s Batting Collapse
KKR’s defeat was primarily due to their poor batting display. The team’s struggles were evident as their highest individual score was just 26 runs, made by Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Sunil Narine was dismissed for a duck, while Quinton de Kock managed only 1 run. Venkatesh Iyer scored 3, and Rinku Singh, after getting set, threw his wicket away for 17. Impact player Manish Pandey contributed 19, while Andre Russell fell cheaply for 5. Towards the end, Ramandeep Singh’s 22 off 12 balls helped KKR cross the 100-run mark.
KKR Slips to the Bottom of the Table
With this loss, Kolkata Knight Riders have slipped to the bottom of the points table. Having won just one out of three matches, KKR now sits in 10th place. Mumbai Indians, with their first win, have climbed to the sixth spot, boasting a net run rate of +0.309.
Mumbai Creates New Record
Along with the victory, Mumbai Indians also set a remarkable record. They now hold the record for the most wins at a single stadium, having defeated KKR 10 times at the Wankhede Stadium. Additionally, Mumbai has beaten KKR a record 24 times in IPL history, the most by any team against a single opponent.
Upcoming Fixtures
Mumbai Indians will face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 4. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders will look to bounce back as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground, Eden Gardens.
