The Kalika Kandoli Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali, located in Nagrota, about 14 km from Jammu city.

1. History

  • According to legends, Kalika Devi first appeared and stayed at this place before moving on to Vaishno Devi, making Kandoli an important prelude in the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.
  • The word "Kandoli" derives from “Kandol”, meaning a stone or a divine presence (a form of Shakti) that was first established here.
  • Pilgrims traditionally believe that a visit to Vaishno Devi remains incomplete without first paying respects at Kalika Kandoli.
  • Historical records mention the temple being revered for centuries by local Dogra kings and commoners alike.

  India reached the Olympic hockey semifinals by defeating Britain in a shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, leading to a shootout where India won 4-2.
