IPL2025: Gujarat Titans clinical win over Rajasthan Royals as Sudharsan, Prasidh deliver

Overcoming the disappointment of a loss in their very first match of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans have now registered their fourth consecutive victory. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat crushed Rajasthan Royals by a commanding 58-run margin in their fifth match of the season. With this win, Gujarat defeated Rajasthan for the sixth time in IPL history. The team excelled in all three departments, with Sai Sudharsan’s excellent knock and Prasidh Krishna’s lethal spell proving to be the key highlights. This victory has propelled Gujarat to the top of the points table.

In the 23rd match of the season, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the home team Gujarat Titans completely dominated proceedings. However, their start wasn’t ideal, as Jofra Archer created early trouble during the powerplay. Gujarat suffered a blow in the third over when captain Shubman Gill was clean bowled. But Sai Sudharsan launched a counterattack against the rest of Rajasthan’s bowlers. He stitched a blistering 80-run partnership in just 47 balls with Jos Buttler (36 runs off 25 balls) for the second wicket, helping Gujarat cross the 100-run mark by the 11th over.

Sudharsan, who scored 82 off 53 deliveries, notched up his third half-century of the season but narrowly missed out on a century. Nevertheless, the other batters capitalized on the platform he laid. Shahrukh Khan smashed 36 runs off 20 balls, Rahul Tewatia added a quickfire 24 from just 12 deliveries, and Rashid Khan chipped in with an unbeaten 12 off 4 balls, taking Gujarat to a formidable total of 217. Except for Jofra Archer, all Rajasthan bowlers took a beating, though Maheesh Theekshana and Tushar Deshpande managed to pick up two wickets each.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, failed to get the start they were hoping for. Within just three overs and at a mere score of 12 runs, they lost both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana. Despite the early setback, captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag launched a counterattack, targeting Gujarat’s pace bowlers and taking the team close to 60 runs by the end of the powerplay. However, the momentum shifted when Parag (26) was dismissed in the seventh over, followed by Dhruv Jurel in the next.

With four wickets down for just 68 runs, the responsibility fell on Samson and Shimron Hetmyer, who managed to take the score past 110 by the 12th over. But in the 13th over, Prasidh Krishna struck again, removing Samson for 41. The very next over saw Shivam Dube also departing, exposing Rajasthan’s recurring issue of losing wickets in clusters. Prasidh further dashed their hopes by dismissing Hetmyer (52) in the 16th over. Rajasthan’s innings eventually collapsed for 159 runs in the final over. Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets, while Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore chipped in with 2 wickets each.
