IPL2025 : Delhi Capitals outplayed LSG , Rahul , Porel , Mukesh shines

In the 40th match of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals secured a dominant victory over Lucknow Super Giants. KL Rahul delivered a fine performance against his former team, scoring an unbeaten half-century. He remained not out at 57 runs, while Mukesh Kumar impressed with the ball, taking a match-high 4 wickets. Lucknow batted first and managed only 159 runs. In response, Delhi chased down the target with ease, losing just two wickets and finishing the game in 17.5 overs. KL Rahul sealed the win with a six. Notably, Rahul had been a key part of the Lucknow Super Giants for the past three years, but after reported tensions with team owner Sanjiv Goenka, he parted ways and joined Delhi Capitals.

With this win, Delhi strengthened its position in the points table. It was their sixth win in eight matches, placing them second. Gujarat Titans have also won six out of eight, but lead Delhi on net run rate.

Trouble for Lucknow

The match began in Delhi's favour right from the toss, with captain Axar Patel opting to bowl first on the Lucknow pitch. Despite a promising start by Lucknow openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, who put on 87 runs in 10 overs, things quickly fell apart after Markram’s dismissal. He scored a solid 52 off 33 balls. Following that, the batting lineup collapsed—Nicholas Pooran was bowled by Starc for 9, Abdul Samad managed just 2, and though Ayush Badoni added a fighting 36 off 21 balls, the rest struggled. David Miller scored only 14 off 15 balls, and Rishabh Pant faced two balls without scoring. Mukesh Kumar was the standout for Delhi with figures of 4/33. His yorker to dismiss an in form Mitch Marsh (45) was a big moment in the game as was Starc getting Pooran .

Chasing 160, Delhi got off to a brisk start with Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel adding 36 runs in just 22 balls. Nair departed for 15, but Porel and KL Rahul put up a strong partnership that took the game away from Lucknow. Porel scored an enterprising 51 off 36 balls, while Rahul’s solid unbeaten 57 came off 42 balls. Axar Patel wrapped things up with a quickfire 34* off 20 deliveries. Mukesh Kumar for his 4/33 was the player of the match .
