Barcelona Crush Dortmund 4-0 in Quarter-Final First Leg Masterclass in Champions league 2025

Barcelona delivered a stunning performance at home to overpower Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, with Brazilian winger Raphinha playing a starring role.

The 27-year-old forward was directly involved in all four goals—scoring once and providing two assists—bringing his tally to 19 goal contributions in this season’s competition, equalling Lionel Messi’s record from the 2011-12 campaign.

Barcelona made a blistering start, carving out several early chances. Within the first seven minutes, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski both tested Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who was forced into action multiple times to keep the score level.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute, albeit with a slice of fortune. After Jules Kounde was fouled by Karim Adeyemi—who was penalized for pulling his hair—Fermin Lopez’s resulting free-kick found Inigo Martinez at the far post. Martinez nodded the ball back across goal, and Pau Cubarsi steered it towards the net. Raphinha, just onside, tapped it over the line to give Barca a deserved lead.

Dortmund responded with a brief spell of pressure before halftime, with Adeyemi and Serhou Guirassy both going close, but it was Barcelona who emerged stronger after the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, Raphinha headed Yamal’s cross across goal, where Lewandowski was on hand to tap in from close range and double the lead.

Barcelona continued to dominate as Dortmund’s defense faltered under pressure. Fermin Lopez struck the post with a driven shot and then fired a rebound over the bar moments later.

Lewandowski added his second—and his 99th goal for the club—in the 66th minute, capping a swift counter-attack with a clinical first-time finish under Kobel.

The final goal came in the 77th minute when Raphinha, again at the heart of the move, squared the ball for Yamal to slot home, sealing a comprehensive victory for the La Liga leaders.

Barcelona will take a commanding lead into the second leg, scheduled for Tuesday, 15 April in Germany, as they edge closer to a place in the semi-finals.
