IPL2025 : Buttler helps Gujarat Titans clinch thrilling win over Delhi Capitals to top points table

Gujarat Titans emerged victorious in the clash of IPL 2025 table-toppers, defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in a high-stakes match held on Saturday, April 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat registered their fifth win of the season by successfully chasing a challenging 204-run target in the final over. The stars of the match were Jos Buttler and Prasidh Krishna — Buttler scored a brilliant 97*, while Krishna’s 4-wicket haul restricted Delhi from reaching a bigger total.

Thousands of Gujarat Titans fans braved the scorching heat to witness the electrifying encounter, and their support paid off. Despite Delhi’s potent bowling lineup, Gujarat’s batting unit rose to the occasion, helping the hosts chase down 204 and climb to the top of the points table. Delhi, who suffered only their second defeat of the season, dropped to second place.

Prasidh Krishna Puts the Brakes on DC’s Momentum

Delhi had a strong start, with contributions coming from several batters, though none converted into a big knock. Abishek Porel (18) and Karun Nair (31) gave a quick start, followed by brisk innings from KL Rahul (28), Ashutosh Sharma (37), and Tristan Stubbs (31). By the 9th over, Delhi had crossed the 100-run mark and seemed on course for a 220+ total. However, Prasidh Krishna (4/41) turned the game around with crucial breakthroughs, curbing the run flow. Though DC managed occasional big overs, wickets fell consistently, and they finished at 203 — below what once seemed likely.

Gujarat’s chase, on the other hand, began on a rough note with skipper Shubman Gill run out in the second over. However, Sai Sudharsan (36) stabilized the innings with yet another consistent knock and, alongside Buttler, took Gujarat past 70 in just 7 overs. After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Buttler took charge with help from impact player Sherfane Rutherford, who smashed 43 runs. The duo carried Gujarat to 193 by the 19th over.

Needing 10 runs in the final over, Delhi once again trusted Mitchell Starc, who had defended 8 runs in their last match against Rajasthan Royals. However, this time Rahul Tewatia sealed the deal for Gujarat with a six off the first ball and a four on the next, handing his team a convincing 7-wicket win. Though Buttler narrowly missed his century, remaining unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls (11 fours, 4 sixes), his innings proved instrumental in Gujarat’s rise to the top of the table.
