Tennis : Djokovic to end 2023 as World no 1 at 36 , 400 weeks as no 1 & more records
Novak Djokovic finally gets that one win that was needed to get through the year 2023 as World number one and complete a world record 400 weeks as World number one in his illustrious tennis career at the age of 36 .
At Turin in the Nitto ATP event Djokovic won his first group game vs Danish young sensation Holger Rune after 3 gruelling sets of high octane tennis .
Needing a win to seal the number one ranking for the year , Djokovic started a tight contest with Rune . Both players played sparkling tennis across 3 highly competitive sets of high level display . The first set ended at 6-6 and in the tie break Djokovic grabbed the points that mattered to win it 7-4 and take the lead .
Both players traded breaks in the second set as Rune raised his intensity and executed some breathtaking returns but Djokovic was undaunted . The second set ended 6-6 and this time Rune won a one side tiebreaker 7-1 to level the match .
However Djokovic got the crucial early break in the 3rd deciding set and from there he did not look back winning the 3rd set 6-3 after playing some top class tennis to seal his year end number one spot.

Meanwhile in another match Zannik Sinner played polished tennis to beat Tsitipas 6-4 , 6-4 in straight sets in front of his home supporters .
The Nitto ATP event consists of 8 top ranked players split into 2 groups . In one group it is Djokovic , Rune , Sinner and Tsitipas while in the other group there is Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rublev & Zverev . The event ends on November 19th
The next one week is expected to produce scintillating tennis across both groups .
