Nitto ATP masters: Sinner beats Djokovic in a thriller to move closer to semis

Novak Djokovic who recently regained his number one ranking after a win in the previous game had to play a very hard fought epic match against Jannik Sinner before going down in 3 sets in a high octane tennis match in Nitto ATP finals .

After beating Holger Rune in a similar hard fought game, Djokovic confronted Sinner who never beat him in the past but who is in hot form after recent wins in other tournaments.

Buoyed by the home crowd  , Sinner showed tremendous resilience and bravery against Djokovic throughout the match .

The first set was tightly fought and Djokovic looked likely to win but a moment of misjudgment at 40-0 & 5-5 when he left a ball the touched the line proved to be a big moment in the game . Sinner took full advantage of that moment, broke Djokovic and won the set 7-5 .

The second set was very hard fought with both players hitting breathtaking shots . The set went till tiebreak & in a hard fought tiebreaker  Djokovic won 7-5 .

Both players traded a break each in the final set as the tennis right through the game was of a high level . It was 6-6 again and this time Sinner dominated the tiebreaker winning 7-2 and describing it as the best win of his career .

Djokovic despite his loss played at a high level and  is still poised to reach the semis along with Sinner from their group .

Meanwhile Tsitipas retired early due to medical reasons  in his game vs Holger Rune with Rune leading 2-1 in set one .

Tsitipas is withdrawn from the tournament and is replaced by Hubert Hurkaz .
