VVS Laxman, born on 1st November 1974 , is a former Indian cricketer who had a remarkable career as a leading batsman in test cricket . A native of Hyderabad, here are some of his notable achievements and details:


1. **Test Cricket Career**: VVS Laxman was primarily known for his performances in Test cricket. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 1996.


2. **Stylish Batsman**: Laxman was renowned for his elegant and stylish batting technique. He was known for his wristy strokes and his ability to play both spin and pace with finesse.


3. **Iconic 281**: Laxman's most famous moment came during the historic 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia. He played an epic innings of 281, which is considered one of the greatest Test innings ever. This innings turned the match around and led to an Indian victory after following on in that test against the mighty Australians 


4. **Consistency**: Throughout his Test career, Laxman was a consistently high-performing middle-order batsman. He played 134 Tests and scored 8781 runs, including 17 centuries at an impressive average of 45.5 


Laxman played many match winning test knocks vs India . Some of his very best include 281 v Australia Kolkata 2001 , 148 v Australia Adelaide 2003 , 96 v South Africa Durban 2009 , 71 not out vs Australia 2010 in a last wicket win at Mohali & 51 on a treacherous pitch vs South Africa at Ahmedabad 1996 on debut helping India to win the test.  


5. **ODI Career**: While he was more prominent in Test cricket, Laxman also played One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He scored  2,338 runs in the ODI format in 86 games at 30.76 average and struck 6 centuries . One of his most memorable ODI 100 was vs Pakistan in the 5th and final ODI at Lahore which helped India in their first ever ODI series win over Pakistan in Pakistan in 2004 by 3-2 . However strangely he never played in any ODI World cup . 


6. **Notable Partnerships**: Laxman was part of several memorable partnerships with other Indian cricket legends, including Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly. Two of his most famous and marathon 300 plus runs  partnerships happened with Rahul Dravid at Kolkata and Adelaide both of which led to great test wins over mighty Australian teams


7. **Awards and Honors**: He received numerous awards and recognitions during his career, including the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri, which are prestigious awards in India.


8. **Retirement**: VVS Laxman announced his retirement from international cricket in 2012. He bid farewell as one of India's most beloved and respected cricketers.
