IPL2024 : Major drama after cutoff retention time as Hardik finally ditches Gujarat

After the end of hot speculations for 2 days Hardik Pandya has returned to Mumbai Indians in another sensational development.  Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of Gujarat Titans for two years, has once again returned with 5-time champion Mumbai.  Hardik joined Mumbai after being retained in just 2 hours amidst tremendous drama on the retention day on Sunday 26th November.  With this, the rumors and speculations that had been going on for three days were finally confirmed.  Hardik's return to Mumbai also became the most high-profile trade in IPL history, which had already surprised everyone.

Since November 24, there were reports that Hardik Pandya can once again return to his old team Mumbai Indians after staying with Gujarat for 2 years.  However, there was no reaction on this from both the teams.  Since the deadline for players' retention was on Sunday 26th November, it was expected that an official announcement would be made during this time itself.

Retention was announced earlier but more drama followed .

Then as soon as the retention was announced, everyone got shocking news.  During the retention show in the official broadcaster Star Sports, a sensational announcement was made that Gujarat has retained Hardik.  This left everyone stunned.  However, even after this, the hopes of Hardik going to Mumbai were still alive because the trading window will remain open even after the retention-deadline.  But hardly anyone would have thought that all this would happen in the next 2 hours.

At around 5.25 pm, Hardik's retention was announced and then at around 7.25 pm, cricket website Cricbuzz revealed that Hardik has returned to Mumbai.  It was told in the report that this is completely a cash deal, under which Mumbai Indians will pay a salary of Rs 15 crore to Hardik.  Apart from this, a separate transfer fee has also been agreed upon, 50 percent of which will be given to Hardik and the remaining 50 percent will be given to Gujarat Titans.  However, the amount of this transfer fee has not been disclosed.

Return to the team after 2 years

Hardik started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2015.  With the success here, the doors of Team India also opened for Hardik.  Hardik won the title 4 times while with Mumbai.  Then in the 2022 season, Gujarat Titans franchise entered the IPL and Hardik became its captain.  Hardik made the team win the title in the first season itself.  In the 2023 season, he took the team to the finals, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings.

To complete this shocking comeback of Hardik, another surprising deal has been made, in which Mumbai has traded Australian all-rounder Cameron Green with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In such a situation, Mumbai tried its best to bring Hardik back to its team and for this it decided to trade its most expensive player Cameron Green.  According to the report of Cricbuzz, Mumbai has traded Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a full cash deal.  This has freed up Rs 17.50 crore in Mumbai's auction purse, paving the way for the franchise to bring Hardik and buy him in the auction.
