Indian bowlers fightback in style after Aussie quicks dismantle India in 1st Test day one

Team India  made a remarkable comeback in the Perth Test match after a batting debacle. After a disappointing performance by the batsmen, the sharp bowling spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah brought India close to taking a first-innings lead. Acting captain Bumrah compensated brilliantly for his debatable decision to bat first on a  green pitch by delivering a devastating opening spell. His exceptional bowling helped India reduce Australia to 67/7 after India's batting collapse, marking a strong comeback on the first day of the Test. The day saw a total of 17 wickets fall—India's 10 and Australia's 7.

This match was anticipated as a contest between two teams struggling with their batting form. Bumrah's decision to bat first after winning the toss surprised many, given the grassy pitch that offered seam and extra bounce. Indian batsmen, both young and experienced, struggled against the Australian bowlers. Apart from debutant Nitish Reddy’s 41 and Rishabh Pant’s 37, no other player contributed significantly, and the Indian innings folded for 150 runs in 49.4 overs.

For Australia, Mitchell Starc bowled 11 overs, conceding just 14 runs for 2 wickets, while Josh Hazlewood was the standout with 4 wickets for 29 runs in 13 overs. Captain Pat Cummins also chipped in with 2 wickets for 67 runs in 15.4 overs.

In response, Australia had no answer to Bumrah's exceptional bowling. Recognized as one of the world’s best pacers, Bumrah claimed 4 wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs. Mohammed Siraj supported him well, taking 2 wickets for 17 runs in 9 overs, while debutant Harshit Rana picked up 1 wicket for 33 runs in 8 overs.

Bumrah trapped debutant Nathan McSweeney (10) LBW and bowled a beauty to dismiss Usman Khawaja (8). After dropping a catch earlier, Virat Kohli made no mistake this time, while Steve Smith, struggling for form, was dismissed LBW for a golden duck by Bumrah. The pressure created by Bumrah allowed other bowlers to capitalize. Rana clean-bowled Travis Head (11) with a delivery targeting the middle stump & left Head . Australia’s top order crumbled to 31/4. Marnus Labuschagne, who took 24 balls to get off the mark, was eventually dismissed LBW by Siraj for 2 runs off 52 balls. Siraj also removed Mitchell Marsh, caught by KL Rahul in the slips as the Aussues were in total dissaray .

Earlier batting first India lost promising Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) early to a slip catch as he tried to drive Starc .Paddikal was caught behind for 0 off 22 balls . Virat Kohli on whom  a lot depends on this series for India was dismissed off a short ball by Hazlewood for 5 as he pressed forward and fended to slips. This is the 2nd time in 2 tests that Kohli got out on the short ball vs Australia. KL Rahul was playing well & leaving balls outside off . He looked solid for his 26 till a a 3rd umpire debatable decision of a caught behind cut his innings short . Rahul was unhappy as he walked back .  Jurel (11) & Sundar (4) had  short stay and finally it was Rishabh Pant (37) & debutant Nitish Reddy (41) who got into a fine partnership to stage a gallant fightback with positive strokeplay - probably the only way to survive on the pitch.

Pant finally was caught in the slips off Cummins & Reddy was last out as the tail folded up quickly .

Then it was the turn of the home team batters to falter on an eventful day one of this much awaited test series.
