Jaiswal , Rahul stars in India's domination over Aussies on day 2 of Perth test
After a glorious day for the Indian bowlers on day one , it was another outstanding day for the tourists on day 2 of the 1st test at Perth in the Australia v India test series and this time it was their openers who scripted a magnificent partnership of 172 runs and unseperated after 17 wickets fell on a frantic day one .
The day began with Australia tottering at 67/7 in their first innings and Bumrah promptly dismissed Australia best batter on day 1 Alex Carey (21) caught behind by Pant to get his 5th wicket . Harshit Rana dismissed Lyon (5) soon after as Aussies sank further to 79/9 before Starc had Hazlewood got into a subborn last wicket stand of 25 in the rest of the 1st session to fustrate the Indians. Starc batted well showing great focus and shielding Hazlewood (7*) before he finally at 26 tried to hoist Harshit Rana only to succeed in skying a catch to Pant & Australia were dismissed for 104 . Harshit took 3/48 but it was the skipper Bumrah who led from the front to force India back in the game with high class fast bowling to get 5/30 and demolish the Aussies .
With a crucial 46 run lead . Indian openers came out with even more determination as they exhibited high class test match batting to counter the star studded Australian bowling attack . KL Rahul who looked high quality in the first innings showing great technique & judgement once again showed the same leaving lots of balls outside off stump that looked menacing. Jaiswal learnt quickly after his first innings duck and looked fine touch and also showing a lot of patience to grind out a long innings like Rahul . Jaiswal punished the loose balls and respected the good ones like his senior partner .
Cummins did bowl a hostile spell after tea to break the stubborn stand as the Aussie quicks dried up the runs but both the batters negotiated that phase with flying colours & patience as the pitch provided the occasional variable bounce though it played better than day 1 .
Both played some wonderful shots particularly one straight drive by Rahul looked million dollars as was Jaiswal's flick off Starc for 6 in the last session.
Cummins tried to change the momentum with the spin of Lyon and the bowling of par timers Labuschagne & Head but nothing worked
Jaiswal was dropped in the slips off Starc soon after reaching 50 but after that he concentrated harder and did not give another chance . He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes as he reached 90 off 193 balls and was unbeaten with KL Rahul who managed a stubborn 62 off 153 balls with 4 boundaries . India ended day 2 at 172/0 with every chance now to go one up in the 5 test series .
