UEFA Nations league : England avenge defeat , France fails to beat Isreal , win for Norway
In the fifth round of the UEFA Nations League, fans witnessed unexpected results, revenge victories, and narrow wins as top European teams, including England, France, Norway, Belgium, and Italy, competed.
England claimed a 3-0 victory over Greece in Athens. For Lee Carsley’s squad, it was a night of redemption at the Olympic Stadium as they avenged their recent 2-1 loss to Greece at Wembley. Ollie Watkins and Curtis Jones both scored, while Newcastle’s goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos added to England’s tally with an own goal.
In another dominant display, Norway crushed Slovenia in an away game. Antonio Nusa scored twice, with Erling Haaland and Hauge Jens adding further goals.
Elsewhere, France had a frustrating night in Paris, held to a scoreless draw by Israel at the Stade de France. Despite Kylian Mbappe’s absence, Les Bleus struggled to break down a resolute Israeli defense.
Meanwhile, Italy and Ireland both secured 1-0 victories against Belgium and Finland, respectively. North Macedonia and the Faroe Islands also edged out Armenia and Latvia.
Austria emerged victorious as well, defeating a 10-man Kazakhstan team 2-0.
Following these results, Italy and France have both qualified for the quarter-finals from League A. England now sits level with Greece at the top of Group 2 in League B, with both teams on 12 points, though England leads on goal difference after tonight's win.
