Sri Lanka beats New Zealand 2-0 to win ODI series

 


Sri Lanka cricket team is going through a great spell in which they have been winning a lot of back of back series across formats . Under the legendary cricketer Sanat Jayasurya they have won an ODI  series at home against a formidable India and followed it with a test match win in England . Back home they beat New Zealand 2-0 in a test series , the same New Zealand went ahead and whitewashed India in a test series in India . And now after drawing the T20I series 1-1  Sri Lanka has beaten New Zealand 2-0 in the ODI series of 3 games .


In the first ODI  hundreds from Kusal Mendis (143) & Aviskha Fernando (100) set up a big Sri Lanka score of 324/5 with Asalanka's quickfire 40 providing the impetus. In reply aftr the match was reduced due to rain to 27 overs , the blackcaps could not achieve the 221 target & lost by 45 runs after finishing at 175/7 , the Kiwi middle order slumped after a fibe start by Will Young (48) & Tim Robinson (35) . Madhusanka took 3 wickets while Theekshana & skipper Asalanka took 2 wickets each .


In the 2nd ODI which was a low scoring affair , New Zealand were bowled out for 209 with Chapman (74) & Mitch Hay (49) being the main contributors after Young made 28 . Spinners Theekshana & Vandersay took 3 wickets each . In reply Kusal Mendis led the Sri Lankan reply with another stellar knock of 74 but after a god opening stand with Nissanka (28) , Mendis was the witness of a batting collapse as Sri Lanka slumped to 93/5  . However with support from Liyanage (22) , Wellalage (18) & Theekshana (27)  Mendis escorted Sri Lanka to a 3 wicket win to seal the series 2-0 with one to play. 


The final match was a washout after New Zealand reached 112/1 in 21 overs with Will Young (56) & Nicholls (46) batting.  Kusal Mendis was the player of the series .

  China successfully defended their Golds medal in the men’s table tennis team event with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Sweden at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Olympics24 : Ten men India edge out Britain in tie breaker to storm into hockey SF

  India reached the Olympic hockey semifinals by defeating Britain in a shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, leading to a shootout where India won 4-2. India played with ten players for 42 minutes to secure the victory. In the semifinals, India will face the winner of the Germany-Argentina match. A win in Tuesday's match will ensure a silver medal for last time's bronze winners at the Paris Olympics. Following the advice of video umpire , Indian defender Amit Rohidas was shown a red card in the fourth minute of the second quarter for unintentional stick contact with a British player’s head.
