Furguson hattrick helps NZ to square the 2 match T20I series vs Sri Lanka
New Zealand bowlers put on a sensational performance to beat Sri Lanka by just 5 runs in the 2nd T20I to draw the series 1-1 after losing the first game. Lockie Furgusion scored a hattrick and Glenn Phillips later took 3 late wickets to cause a major slump in the Sri Lanka batting as the hosts failed to chase down a small target of 108 and lost by 5 runs .
New Zealand batted first and scored only 108 . Will Young (30) was the top scorer while the middle order failed miserably .Later Santner (19) & Clarkson (24) added some invaluable runw but not before Hasaranga claimed 4 wickets . Thusara and Pathirana took 2 and 3 wickets respectively .
In reply Nissanka scored a fine 52 but did not receive any support from the rest as Furgusion & Phillips created history with their bagful of wickets .
In the 1st T20I fine bowling by Wellalage (3 wickets ) and 2 wickets each from Hasaranga, Thusara & Pathirana restricted New Zealand to 135 in which Breacewell (27) & Foulkes (27) made useful contribution. The hosts chased down the score courtesy small but useful contributions from Kusal Parera (23) , Kusal Mendis (23) , skipper Asalanka (35) and Hasaranga (22) . Sri Lanka thus took 1-0 lead in the series only to be squared by the Kiwis on the next opportunity.
