WPL24: UP Warriorz pull off a hiest in dramatic finish v Delhi as Deepti reign supreme
Delhi Capitals' winning streak in the Women's Premier League has stopped. UP Warriors won the match by one run in the last over in a dramatic finish . Despite Deepti Sharma's half-century, UP Warriors team could score only 138 runs for 8 wickets. Delhi lost wickets continuously in the death overs. After 17 overs, Delhi's score was 112 runs for 3 wickets. The team's innings was reduced to 137 runs in 19.5 overs. This is also the lowest score defended in the Women's Premier League.
Deepti, who was in excellent form, batting at number three, scored 59 runs in 48 balls which included 6 fours and a six. However, she did not get good support from the other end after the dismissal of captain Alyssa Healy (29). Apart from Deepti and Healy, only Grace Harris (14) from Warriors could reach double digits.
Warriors won the toss and batted first and scored 44 runs after losing the wicket of Kiran Navgire (5) in 6 overs of powerplay. Sadhu gave early success to Delhi by bowling Kiran. Healy and Deepti made a partnership of 46 runs for the second wicket. Both of them kept the score board moving by hitting the ball across the boundary line in every over. Alice Capsey broke this partnership by getting Healy caught at long on. After this the Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals.
Deepti continued scoring runs from one end. The Warriors were expecting a big innings from Harris but despite getting a lease of life from Delhi captain Meg Lanning in the 14th over, she could not take advantage of it and was dismissed by Radha Yadav after just two balls. This affected the running pace of the Warriors. For Delhi, Radha Yadav took two wickets for 16 runs and Titas Sadhu took two wickets for 23 runs. Both of them bowled three overs each.
Deepti first dismissed captain Meg Lanning (60) and then started the fall of wickets in the last two overs. Delhi needed 15 runs in the last two overs but in the meantime it scored 13 runs and lost the remaining 6 wickets. Off-spinner Deepti dismissed Annabel Sutherland (6) bowled and Arundhati Reddy on the first two balls of the 19th over. However, Deepti showed Shikha the way to the pavilion on the fourth ball with a brilliant caught and bowled.
Warriors captain Alyssa Healy handed over the responsibility of saving 10 runs in the last over to Grace Harris. Radha Yadav hit a six on her first ball as Khemnar could not catch the ball and two runs were conceded on the second ball. Harris bowled Radha on the next ball. After this Jess Jonason (11) was run out. Harris then gave a thrilling victory to the Warriors by dismissing Titas Sadhu on the next ball caught at mid on by Wyatt . This is the third win for the Warriors in seven matches while Delhi tasted its second defeat in six matches.
Lanning scored 60 runs in 46 balls with the help of 12 fours. After the early dismissal of Shefali Verma (15) bowled by Saima , Lanning took up the responsibility of scoring runs with her trademark cuts & pulls . When she returned to the pavilion as the third wicket lbw to Deepti in the 14th over, Delhi's score was 93 runs. Alice Capsey (15) was the second batsman to be out caught in the deep off Ecclestone. Jemimah Rodrigues (17) was out in the 18th over caught in the deep off Saima and that opened up the game in the final few balls for a dramatic finish
