WPL24 : Jemima's gem powers Delhi Capitals to an emphatic win over Mumbai Indians
Jemima Rodrigues batting at number 4 played a gem of a knock to dismantle the Mumbai Indians bowling as Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 29 runs in Women's Premier League in the clash of the titans . Batting first on Tuesday, Delhi scored 192 runs for 4 wickets. In reply, Harmanpreet Kaur's team's innings ended at 163 for 8.
It may be noted that Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the first leg after a sensational last ball 6 by debutant Sajana but today Delhi Capitals scripted a dominant win
Harmanpreet won the toss and decided to field. Delhi batters used the opportunity to bat first. Skipper Meg Lanning came down to open and played another superb innings of 53 runs from 38 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. She looked in sublime touch after taking a while to settle . Another opener Shefali Verma helped her at the other end of 22 yards. An aggressive innings of 28 runs from 12 balls came from Shefali's bat. She smashed 3 fours and 2 sixes before Ismail had her caught behind . Alice Capsey at number three scored 19 off 20 balls before playing on to Hayley Mathews. Jemima Rodriguez, the reliable batsman of the Indian team, caught the eye at number four. Jemima played an breathtaking unbeaten innings of 69 runs off 33 balls. 8 fours and 3 sixes came from her bat as she played innovative shots by moving around the crease and timing the ball superbly as the boundaries were hit to all parts of the ground . Jess Johnson remained unbeaten on 4 runs. None of Mumbai's bowlers had much success on the day. Pooja Vastrakar took 1 wicket with 20 runs and was economical . 1 wicket for 23 runs for West Indies all-rounder Hayley Mathews. Saika Ishaq got 1 wicket with 29 runs and bowled well but Amelia Kerr had a subdued outing .
Chasing a target of 193 runs for victory, Mumbai faced a batting collapse. Opener Mathews scored 29 runs off 17 balls with the help of 6 fours but failed to continue while Yastika Bhatia (6), Nat Sciver Brant (5), Harmanpreet (6) fell cheaply within the powerplay as Kapp bowled Yastika and had Harmanpreet caught at gully off a leading edge while Shikha Pandey bowled the danger batter Nat Sciver . Losing 4 wickets for 54 runs, Mumbai fell under pressure. Amelia Kerr (17), Pooja (17) could not give the team much confidence as they came down to bat at number five and six. Amanjot Kaur, who came down to number seven, batted brightly . She played an enterprising innings of 42 runs off 27 balls and hit 7 fours. Humaira Kazi (6) failed to make good her oppurtunity . However Sajivan Sajna remained unbeaten with 24 runs off 14 balls and made some lusty hits to reduce the defeat margin and peotected the net run rate to get too further damaged due to a potential big defeat . Jonassen was the most successful of the Delhi bowlers with 21 runs and 3 wickets. 2 wickets for 37 runs was taken by South Africa's spearhead bowler Marizanne Cup. Shikha Pandey, Titas Sadhu and Radha Yadav got 1 wicket each. Jemima won the player of ths match for her splendis innings .
Delhi won all four out of five matches played. They are at the top of the league table with 8 points. Last time champions Mumbai are third in the list with three wins from the same number of matches.
