Ravindra , Mitchell puts NZ in a strong position , Aus struggling at 77/4 in a 279 chase

New Zealand further consolidates their position in the 2nd test v Australia.  After reaching 372 in the second innings the Kiwi quicks dented the Australian top order to leave them at 77/4 at close in a tricky 279 run chase to win the series .

The Aussies started the day well with Tom Latham (73) falling early caught behind off Cummins . However Ravindra and Mitchell got into a fine partnership of 123 runs with both batters showcasing fine test match batting and glorious strokeplay . After playing classical drives and cuts Ravindra was caught behind off Cummins for 82 . Mitchell reached a fine 58 before being dismissed by Hazlewood. Blundell (9) and Phillips (16) went cheaply .  However the tail wagged with Kuggeleign smashing 44 with 2 6s . Henry made 16 and New Zealand reached 372  thereby setting a 279 target to Australia.

Australia were soon rattled as Smith (9) fell to another low score as an opener getting lbw to Henry who also had the prolific Khawaja (11) caught in the slips . Labuschagne (6) after getting a life was caught abd bowled by Sears who also bowled Green for 5 to leave Australia tottering at 34/4 . Head (17) and Marsh (27) managed to stay till the end to take Australia to 77/4 at stumps .

With the fragile nature of the Australia batting in more recent times  it appears New Zealand are well poised to win the 2nd test.
