WPL24: DC win a thriller by 1 run v RCB despite Richa heroics

If any one team has been a part of the most exciting matches in the second season of the Women's Premier League, then it is Delhi Capitals.  Last season's runner-up Delhi Capitals had to face defeat on the last ball in the very first match of this season and then in another match they lost by just 1 run to UPW on the last ball .  This time the team captained by Meg Lanning adopted the same method to win and defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 run in a sensational manner.

This super match was played on Sunday 10 March at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, in which Delhi batted first and made a strong score of 181 runs.  Delhi's batting, which failed to achieve the target of 139 runs against UP Warriors in the last match, was fabulous this time.  For that, the opening pair of Shefali Verma (23) and Meg Lanning (29) had completed 50 runs in the powerplay itself. Both played some impressive shots as they looked good for more before Asha dismissed Shafali and Shreyanka had Lanning lbw

After this, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey played explosive innings.  Indian batsman Rodrigues first hit the boundaries and scored a half-century in just 26 balls. Finally she waa bowled by Shreyanka for 58 teying another sweep .   Then Alice Capsey also increased the pace of runs.  There was an excellent partnership of 97 runs between the two. Finally Capsey (48) was bowled by Shreyanka trying to cut .  RCB off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, who returned to the Bangalore team, controlled the pace of Delhi by taking 4 wickets and bowled brilliantly in her last two overs

Bangalore had lost the wicket of captain Smriti Mandhana in the second over itself when she was lbw to Capsey for 5 .  Despite this, the team kept scoring runs at a rapid pace and the reason for this was the legendary all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who came at number three and scored runs quickly before she was run out gor 49 .  She also got good support from Sophie Molineaux and there was a partnership of 80 runs between the two.  Just here Perry was run out and Bangalore's innings started faltering. Molineaux was out after scoring 33 .  However, Richa Ghosh and Sophie Divine took charge and attacked.

Divine made a rapid 26  was out on the score of 142 and from here only Richa Ghosh took the team closer to victory by plundering rubs at will. Wareham hit 12 off 6 balls.  Bangalore needed 17 runs in the last over.  Richa raised hopes of victory by hitting sixes on the first and fifth balls.  2 runs were needed on the last ball but Richa played Jess Jonason's ball straight into the hands of the fielder.  Shefali Verma's throw came straight into the hands of Jonnason, who ran out Richa and the team won the match by 1 run.  With this DC confirmed his place in the top-3.

Richa was crestfallen after ths match and she was consoled by the Delhi Capitals players . Jemima got the player of the match award for her brilliant innings
