IPL24: Sparkling batting by southpaws Dube & Ravindra helps CSK to blow away Gujarat Titans

After Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans were also beaten by last time champions Chennai Super Kings.  Despite Mahendra Singh Dhoni leaving the leadership, the team's success continued.  Ruturaj Gaikwad's team defeated Shubman Gill's team by 63 runs on Tuesday.

Gujarat could not avenge the loss in the last final.  Chasing a target of 207 for victory, Gujarat's  innings ended at 143 for 8 at Chepauk .  None of Gujarat's top-order batsmen could give the team confidence.  Sai Sudarshan came down to bat at number three as an exception.  The CSK pacers were all over the Gujarat team as the visitors lost regular wickets & never recovered .

On this day, Chennai Super Kings batsmen took advantage of the opportunity to bat first at home.  Chennai scored 206 runs for 6 wickets due to the aggressive batting of Rachin Ravindra, Shivam Dube and Ruturaj.  The bowlers of the Titans could not be effective against Chennai.  The two openers captain Ruturaj and Rachin started playing in an aggressive mood from the start.  The New Zealand all-rounder was more aggressive.  He scored  46 runs off 20 balls and hit 6 fours and 3 sixes . It was absolutely breathtaking batting by Ravindra as he cut , drove , pulled with effortless ease and played sparkling shots all around.  Ruturaj also made 46.  He played 36 balls.  5 fours and 1 six came from his bat as he showed signs to improve his batting .   Rahane did not stay long .  He scored 12 runs off 12 balls.  Later Shivam Dube increased the pace of scoring runs with the bat.  Darryl Mitchell paired with him.  Shivam's blistering  51-run innings came from just 23 balls.  He hit 2 fours and 5 breathtaking sixes before getting out off Rashid Khan.  Mitchell made 24 off 20 balls.  Sameer Rizvi also batted at the end.  He scored a quick14 runs off 6 balls with the help of 2 sixes.  Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 7 off 3 balls.

Rashid was the most successful of the Gujarat bowlers with 49 runs and 2 wickets.  1 wicket for 28 runs by Sai Kishore.  1 wicket for 35 runs by Spencer Johnson.  Mohit Sharma got 1 wicket costing 36 runs.  Wriddhiman Saha showed glimpse of old behind the wicket with smart keeping .

In response, Gujarat lost the wicket of skipper Shubman (8) at the start of batting as he was lbw to Chahar .  Wriddhiman Saha (21 off 17 balls) did not get big runs but started well .  Sudarshan struggled a bit.  His innings of 37 runs from 31 balls has 3 fours as he could not force the pace .   Gujarat's middle order failed too.  Vijay Shankar (12 off 12), David Miller (21 off 16), Azmatullah Omarzaira (11 off 10), successive dismissals put pressure on the team's innings.  Handling that pressure was not easy.  After 6 wickets fell for 118 runs, Gujarat had no hope of victory.  Later batters could not do anything significant either.  Rashid (1), Rahul Tewatia (6) did not get runs.  Umesh Yadav (10) and Spencer Johnson (5) remained unbeaten in the end.

Tushar, the most successful of Chennai's bowlers, took 2 wickets for 21 runs.  Chahar took 2 wickets for 28 runs.  Mustafizur Rahman took 2 wickets for 30 runs.  Darryl Mitchell took 1 wicket for 18 runs and  Mathisha Pathirana took 1 wicket for 29 runs. Dube was the man of the match as CSK now head the league table with 2 fabulous wins .
