WPL24: Mandhana masterclass helps RCB to beat a spirited UPW by 23 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore have ended the domestic phase with a win in the Women's Premier League.  In the last match of this season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB defeated UP Warriorz by 23 runs.  RCB scored 198 runs for three wickets against UP Warriorz with half-centuries from captain Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry.  The UP team scored runs quickly but their wickets fell continuously.  In the end the team could score only 175 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.  This is RCB's first win after two defeats and third win in the season.

After losing the last two matches, RCB started the innings with S Meghana in place of Sophie Devine.  Meghana and Mandhana gave a strong start to RCB by adding 51 runs in 5.3 overs.  RCB scored 57 runs for one wicket in the powerplay.  Mandhana scored a breathtaking  80 runs in 50 balls with the help of ten fours and three sixes.  Mandhana mixed timing & power in her sublime shots and looked million dollars today .   This is the biggest innings of any batsman in the season.  This is also Smriti's biggest innings in the history of the league.  Perry played a superb innings of 58 runs in 37 balls with the help of four fours and four sixes.  Mandhana and Perry made a partnership of 95 runs in 64 balls for the second wicket. One of the powerful sixes of Perry broke the side window screen of the car kept as a showpiece besides the boundary

Mandhana played  strokes all around to the UP bowlers.  Taking full advantage of the lease of life she got on 28 runs, she thrashed off-spinner Chamri Athapatthu and left-arm fast bowler Anjali Sarvani.  Off-spinner Deepti Sharma sent him to the pavilion and Poonam Khemnar took the catch at deep midwicket.  Perry, who hit two consecutive sixes on left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gaikwad, and Richa Ghosh added 42 runs in 18 balls for the third wicket.  Richa smashed 23 not out of 10 balls to provide a great finish .

UP Warrioz actually made a brave chase of the target .  Healy and Navgire came out all guns blazing after the first maiden over by Renuka Thakur but Navgire (18) was out soon after looking dangerous . Chamari Athapaththu (8) got a controversial lbw decision and Harris (5) this time went cheaply much to the disappointment of UP team while Sherawat (1) had another failure . However Deepti gave a good stand to Healy who looked in good touch and looked dangerous for RCB . Healy played some great shots on both sides of the pitch .  However at 55 Healy was stumped by Richa off Molineux which was the death knell for UP Warrioz . Although both Deepti (33) and Poonam Khemnar (31) tried their best the target 199 was too stiff for UPW . Two wickets apiece for Devine , Molineux , Wareham and Asha for RCB .  Mandhana was the player of the match .

After this win RCB has moved up to the 3rd spot in the points table above UP Warrioz but below Delhi Capitals & Mumbai Indians
