WPL24: Mumbai Indians thrash timid RCB , Yastika , Amelia shines

 


Mumbai Indians continued their strong play in the Women's Premier League 2024 and achieved their third win in the tournament.  In the 9th match of the tournament, Mumbai team defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore team by 7 wickets with 29 balls to spare .  In the match, RCB team, batting first, could score only 131 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.  In response to this score, Mumbai team scored 133 runs after losing only 3 wickets in just 15.1 overs.  In this way the RCB team had to face its second consecutive defeat.  In the last match, RCB was defeated by Delhi Capitals.


 Nat Sciver Brunt, who came to captain the Mumbai team in place of Harmanpreet Kaur, had decided to bowl first after winning the toss.  The captain's decision proved to be completely correct and Mumbai kept a tight grip on RCB from the very beginning.  In bowling, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Pooja Vastrakar took two wickets each in the match for Mumbai.  Apart from this, Saika Ishaque and Issy Wong took one wicket each.


 RCB's batting was very disappointing in this match against Mumbai.  The team lost its 4 wickets on the score of just 42 runs. Mandhana was caught in the covers off an airy shot of Wong  for 9 , Devine followed trying to sweep Ishaque for 9 . Meghana (11) too got out to an airy shot off Sciver & Richa(7) was caught at midoff off Vastrakar.   Although Ellyse Perry definitely handled the innings in the middle order and played a steady rather than a spectacular innings of 44 runs, but she could not get support from other batsmen except Wareham who scored a breezy 27 .  In such a situation, the entire RCB team could score only 131 runs in 20 overs.


 In this match against RCB, Mumbai team faced no difficulty in achieving the target.  For the team, Yastika Bhatia (31) and Hailey Mathews (26) together made a whirlwind  partnership of 45 runs for the first wicket. Yastika was particularly severe on anything that was short as she cut and pulled which great ferocity.  She scored at over 200 rate and played breathtaking shots . Heyley Mathews was also not far behind as she hit some explosive shots down the ground as she made a quick 26.  After this, captain Brunt (27) and Amelia Kerr (40) together took the team close to the target by playing  sparkling shots. Sciver got out for 27  but Pooja (8*) stayed till the end as Amelia completed the win and got the player of the match award .
