WPL24: Mooney , Wolvaardt powers Gujarat Giants to season's 1st win over RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost by 19 runs to Gujarat Giants in Women's Premier League.  Beth Moonie's team  scored 199 runs for 5 wickets after winning the toss and batting first.  Chasing a target of 200 for victory, Smriti Mandhana's team ended their innings at 180 for 7.  Note that Gujarat won the first time in this competition.

From the beginning of the innings, the two Gujarat openers, Captain Mooney and Laura Olvard, started playing in an aggressive mood.  Their partnership scored 140 runs in the first 13 overs.  Wolvaardt scored a classy 76 off 45 balls.  Her innings has 13 immediate  boundaries.  Mooney held the other end of the wicket until the end.  She remained unbeaten with 85 off 51 balls.  12 fours and 1 six came from her bat.  Basically, Gujarat scored big runs on the first two batters.  Because none of the others could do anything like that.  Phoebe Litchfield dropped to number three and scored 18 off 17 balls.  Ashley Gardner (nil), Dayalan Hemlata (1), Veda Krishnamurthy (1) failed.  Catherine Bryce of Scotland remains unbeaten by 1 run.  Bangalore's most successful bowler Sophie Molinoux took 1 wicket for 32 runs.  1 wicket for 36 runs by Georgia Wareham.

In response, Mandhana's team could not get going  when they came to bat.  None of Bengaluru's batsmen could take responsibility and take the team's innings forward.  Opener Sabbineni Meghna was dismissed for 4 runs after wasted some balls .  Mandhana, the other opener, scored a sparkling 24 runs off 16 balls but couldnt continue  further .  Dropping to number three, Ellis Perry's contribution was 24 off 23 balls.  Sophie Devine made 23 off 16 balls at number four.  RCB lost wickets at regular intervals and fell under pressure.  Bengal's wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh made some effort at the end.  Wareham also accompanied him.  But it was not enough for the team to win.  Richa scored 30 runs in 21 balls with the help of 5 fours and 1 six.  As soon as he got out, Mandhana's team's hopes of victory ended.  Molineux also did not get a run (3).  Wareham scored a breathtaking 48 off 22 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes and gave a scare to the opponent while she looked fiercely dangerous  .  In the end Ekta got 12 from 5 balls.  Simran Bahadur remained unbeaten by 1 run.  Gujarat's most successful bowler Gardner took 2 wickets for 23 runs.  Tanuja Kanwar and Kathryn Bryce got 1 wicket each.

Bengaluru lost three matches after playing six matches.  Despite maintaining the second position in the points list, some pressure increased on the Mandhanas team.  Because Mumbai Indians have 6 points after playing one match less.  On the other hand, Gujarat got their first point in the fifth match.
