England fail spin test to lose 5th test by innings , India win series 4-1 , Jaiswal player of the series

 


After competing strongly with India in most parts of ths series England were totally blown away by a rampant India in the 5th test at the picturesque Dharmashala in just 3 days . After India were 477 all out in the first innings , England totally imploded in the second innings due to total lack of application by their batters who were probably mentally fatigued after the loss in the series in the previous test of a long series. 


The day began with Anderson getting his much awaited 700th test wicket in his 187th test when he dismissed a stubborn Kuldeep (30) who was  caught behind . Anderson became the first pace bowler in the history of test cricket to take 700 wickets- a marvellous feat .


Bumrah (20) was stumped off Bashir who took 5 wickets as India folded up for 477.


In reply England started poorly with Duckett (2) taking a wild swipe at Ashwin to be bowled and Crawley (0) caught down the leg side off Ashwin . Pope (19) holed out to Jaiswal again off Ashwin which brought the Yorkshire boys Root and Bairstow together in the only decent partnership of the innings .


Root played sublime shots and Bairstow in his 100th test played some imperious shots as he raced to 39 in no time till Kuldeep had him lbw . Both Stokes (0) and Foakes (8) were bowled through the gate by Ashwin as Root was now left to bat with the tail .


Hartley (20) as he did throughout the series batted bravely again till he was lbw to Bumrah who also had Wood (0) lbw with a searing yorker . Bashir (13) hung around for a while before  Jadeja bowled him and finally with partners running out Root (84) went for a big shot off Kuldeep to be caught by Bumrah and England lost by an innings and 64 runs . 


Kuldeep for his 7 wickets and 5 in the first innings was the player of the match while Yashasvi Jaiswal for his 712 runs in the 5 test series at 89 average got the player of the series . 


 With brilliant team efforts by the seniors and juniors alike in a depleted team bereft of 4 top players , India raised their game at the important points during the series  to win the 5 test series 4-1 in style over a full strength England side which came to the Indian shores with a lots of expectations
