IPL24: Samson , Parag shines as Rajasthan Royals earn tough win over LSG

 


Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants at home in their 1st match of the season .  Rajasthan won the first match of IPL in Jaipur by 20 runs.  Rajasthan made 193/4 batting first thanks to Sanju Samson's half-century.  In reply, KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran scored half-centuries but Lucknow's innings ended at 173/6.



 Chasing 194 against Rajasthan, Lucknow got off to a poor start.  Quinton de Kock (4) returned in the first over caught down the legside boundary .  Devdatta Paddikkal (0) and Ayush Badoni (1) also failed. Paddikal was hit on the helmet by Boult who bowled him a couple of balls later. Badoni waa caught at mid off off Burger who bowled with serious pace .  Lucknow was under pressure after losing 3 wickets for 11 runs.  Captain KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda saved the team from collapse.  Hooda  made a sparkling  26 off 13 balls by hitting two fours and two sixes coming in as an impact substitute. 


 After that, Rahul took the lead with vice-captain Nicholas Pooran.  Rahul played for a long time and hit some glorious shots . The Lucknow captain decided to continue playing longer as the asking rate increased.  He returned with 58 runs off 44 balls.  Before that, the duo added 85 runs for the fifth wicket.  Marcus Stoinis (3) was also dismissed after Rahul's return.  Lucknow still had faith in Pooran.  But in the end he could not take the team to a win despite playing a fine innngs studded with breathtaking shots 


Rajasthan won the toss and batted first.  Last time, the opening pair of Jaiswal and Jos Buttler caught the eye.  This time also they started well.  But Buttler got out while picking up Naveen Ul-Haq.  Jaiswal was progressing well with Sanju and was hitting breathtaking shots .  In the fifth over, Mohsin Khan was scooped by Jaiswal who hit a six.  On the next ball, he was caught by Krunal Pandya at mid-wicket off a mistimed pull shot .


 Parag's partnership with Sanju for the fourth wicket gave Rajasthan hope.  The duo added 93 runs after hammering  the Lucknow bowlers.  Parag made a sparkling  43 off 29 balls with the help of one four and three sixes.  But in the end Samson played extremely well.  His innings of 82 runs included three fours and six sixes which were all hit in effortless and subline fashion.  Indian Test team's new cricketer Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on a quikfire 20 runs from 12 balls.  Lucknow's Krunal Pandya also bowled well.  He gave only 19 runs in four overs.


In the end the Rajasthan bowlers managed to defend the target but not before some brave batting from Pooran and Rahul . At the end ,however 193 proved to be too stiff a target for LSG considering their early batting collapse.
