Lyon takes 10 for the match as Australia crush New Zealand in 1st test

 

Australia has won the first test against New Zealand.  In the match played in Wellington, Pant Cummins an Company defeated the host Kiwis by 172 runs.  With this they  have taken a 1-0 lead in the test series.  Australia's two players - Nathan Lyon and Cameron Green - have played important roles in this bumper victory.  While Nathan Lyon alone uprooted 10 batsmen from the crease in the match, Green scored a big century in the first innings in conditions when Australia needed it.  Australia won the Wellington Test within 4 days.

 Australia batted first in the match.  They had scored 383 runs in his first innings, which would not have been possible without Cameron Green's second Test century i.e. the innings of 174 runs played at number 4.  After this, the New Zealand team could not even score 200 runs in its first innings.  The host Kiwis scored 179 runs in their first innings.  Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets for Australia.  Australia got a lead of 204 runs in the first innings.  However, in the second innings the tourists  scored just 164 runs and thus gave New Zealand a target of 369 runs.

 When New Zealand came out to chase the target in its second innings i.e. the fourth innings of the match, it fell apart with this big score.  A half-century partnership for the fourth wicket also took place between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, but after that the rest of the wickets kept falling at regular intervals like a pack of cards.  The result was that the entire New Zealand team could score only 196 runs in the second innings and lost the match by 172 runs.

The 4th day began with Ravindra and Mitchell trying to do the impossible but once Lyon got Ravindra (59) out cutting early in the day the writing was on the wall. With the pitch spinning it was tough for New Zealand batters to survive and thus Blundell (0) & Phillips (1) perished . Blundell was caught close to the wicket and Phillips was lbw with Lyon getting both of them . Kuggeleign (26) hit a few good shots before Green got him with a lifter . Henry (14) was snapped up in the slips off Hazlewood and finally Mitchell (38) was caught and bowled by Hazlewood to give Australia victory  .

 The reason for the faltering of New Zealand's second innings was once again Nathan Lyon, who took 6 wickets in their second innings.  In this way, Lyon single-handedly took 10 wickets of New Zealand in both the innings. 

 However, as far as the Player of the Match is concerned, it was not Nathan Lyon who took 10 wickets in the match but Cameron Green who scored a century, who made such a difference in the match with his innings of 174 runs that New Zealand lost by almost the same score.  Too.  The second and last Test of the series between Australia and New Zealand is to be played in Christchurch.
