WPL24: Delhi Capitals reach final as Shafali explosion dwarfs Gujarat Giants
Delhi Capitals in Women's IPL (Women's Premier League) Final. Delhi beat Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets on Wednesday to book their place in the final. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore finished second and third respectively. These two teams will play the eliminator on Friday.
The Gujarat vs Delhi match on Wednesday was of little importance. But Delhi and Mumbai had equal points. As a result, Delhi could have dropped to number two if they lost this match by huge big margin. However, Meg Lanning & Co did not give that opportunity. Batting first, Delhi bowled out Gujarat for 126 runs. Kapp , Shikha Pandey and Minnu Mani took two wickets each. Jess Jonassen took a wicket. No one got going except Bharti Phulmani (42) for Gujarat. The top order was rocked by Kapp with the scalps of Mooney (0) bowled and Wolvardt (7) caught at midoff while Jonnasen bowled Hemlata (4) . Litchfield (21) & Gardner (12) scratched around for a while both both were dismissed by Mani to leave GT at 48/5 before Fulmali & Bryce(28) got into a good partnership of 68 to give the innings some respectibility before it ended at 126/9 in 20 overs
Delhi reached the winning run in 13.1 overs. Lanning and Shafali started well before Lanning (18) was run out . Soon Capsey (0) departed cheaply too. Shefali Verma alone scored 71 runs in breathtaking style and she typically hit several explosive shots . Her down the ground sixes were truly great to watch
Jemima scored 38 runs with crisp drives , cuts and flicks . Delhi had no problem in winning. And as a result of that victory, they also retained the top spot and directly eached the final.
The winner of the Mumbai vs Bengaluru match on Friday will advance to the final. Sunday will be the final. Mumbai won the women's IPL last time. This time they have to play eliminator.
