WPL24: Harman's breathtaking 95 helps MI to script sensational win over Gujarat Giants in a thriller
Mumbai Indians won the Women's Premier League (WPL) match vs Gujarat Giants in sensational style . Harmanpreet Kaur's unbeaten explosive 95 saw them beat the Gujarat giants by seven wickets. In reply to Gujarat's 190 runs, Mumbai won with seven wickets to spare. They have reached the playoffs in style . And captain Harman herself helped to keep the team in that race.
Gujarat scored 190 runs by losing 7 wickets in the allotted twenty overs by batting earlier on Saturday. After Wolvaardt (13) fell cheaply , Beth Mooney and Dayalan Hemalta's innings was behind their big run haul. In the beginning, Gujarat lost Laura Wolvardt for 18 runs as she was bowled by Mathews . After this, skipper Mooney and Hemlata made a scintillating partnership of 121 runs for the second wicket. Mooney scored a polished 66 off 35 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes with most of the boundaries hit with fluent cricketing shots . Her drives and flicks were superb On the other hand, Hemlata scored a breathtaking 74 runs off 40 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes. She too played lovely shots Not many runs were scored by Gujarat's next set of batsmen as they lost quick wickets in the last 4 overs . Then they could have made a bigger score. Mumbai bowler Saika Ishaque took two wickets.
Mumbai were under pressure after losing Hayley Mathews (18) and Nate Shiver Brunt (2) in the run chase. But they started chasing runs courtesy the pair of skipper Harmanpreet and Yastika Bhatia. Yastika was dismissed for 49 off 36 balls but before that she played glorious strokes - a pulled six , some glorious drives etc. After Yastika's departure Harmanpreet continued to fight. In the end, the team won and left the field but it was insane period of hitting. 90 runs were smashed in the last 6 overs and Harman hit effortless 4s and 6s as the Gujarat bowlers lost their lengths and composer . 13 runs were needed in the last over to win. Harmanpreet brought Gujarat bowler Ash Gardner to the brink of victory in Mumbai with a first-ball six and a second-ball four. After that, she won the match easily with few runs. Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on an explosive 95 off 48 balls with the help of ten fours and five sixes. Partner Kerr remained unbeaten on 12 runs as Mumbai now top group standings with 10 points .
