IPL24: RCB bank on Kohli , Kartick to complete thrilling win over Punjab

The 6th IPL match for 2024 was played between RCB and PBKS at Bangaluru.  It was won by RCB finally after an exciting finish .

Put in to bat first  Punjab Kings lost Jonny Bairstow (8) early. After smacking two fours Bairstow skied Siraj and was caught by Kohli . Dhawan on the other hand was playing calmly and hitting occasional boundaries  . He was well supported by young Prabsimran Singh who looked good for his 25 off 17 before he was dismissed by Maxwell . Livingstone (17) went cheaply and finally Dhawan after a workmanlike 45 off 37 balls departed which put Punjab in trouble as the they looked well short of a par score.

However  Sam Curran looked good as he scored 23 runs in 17 balls, Jitesh Sharma scored an enterprising 27 runs in 20 balls as the run rate picked up . Later Shashank Singh  smashed 21 runs in 8 balls only to take Punjab past 170 . He slammed 21 runs in 8 balls, with 1 boundary and 2 sixes. His explosive batting helped the team to score 176 runs - a much more respectable score than it looked at one stage

Mohammed Siraj from RCB took 2 wickets, after giving away 26 runs in 4 overs.  Glenn Maxwell also took 2 wickets, after giving off 29 runs in 3 overs.

Chasing 177 to win RCB started in whirlwind fashion with Kohli , who was dropped 2nd ball , plundering runs in the 1st few overs . Even though Duplessis (3) got out early , Kohli looked in supreme attacking mood as he plundered 33 in 15 balls as RCB scored 50/1 in powerplay.  Kohli played several offside shots driving on the rise for his breathtaking boundaries .

However RCB kept losing wickets at the other end with Green (3) getting out to Rabada and then Harpreet Brar rattled the RCB batting as he dismissed Patidar (18) and Maxwell (3) cheaply . This forced Kohli to temper his aggression as he had a decent stand with Rawat (11) but Punjab bowlers were resisting the RCB progress which finally led to the dismissals of Kohli (77 off 49 ) to Harshal and Anuj Rawat lbw to Curran .

However Dinesh Karthik and impact substitute  Mahipal Lomror got together and plundered the remaining runs with timely big hits . Karthik slammed a breathtaking 28 off 10 balls while Lomror made 17 off 8 as RCB raced to the win in 19.2 overs  after earlier hiccups .

For Punjab  both Rabada and Harpreet Brar had done outstanding bowling taking 2 wickets each but the rest of the bowling was inconsistent and loose . Punjab also made several misfields and dropped Kohli twice .

Virat Kohli for his superb 77 was the player of the match as RCB took home their first 2 points after losing the 1st game .
