WPL25: Smriti & bowlers power RCB to a crushing win over Delhi Capitals

In the Women's Premier League on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced off against Delhi Capitals. After losing the toss, Delhi batted first and set a target of 142 runs for Bangalore. Chasing the target, RCB secured victory in just the 17th over. Captain Smriti Mandhana played a brilliant knock of 81 runs, leading her team to its second win of the tournament.

Bowlers Renuka Singh and leg-spinner Georgia Wareham played a crucial role in restricting Delhi Capitals to 142 runs by taking three wickets each. Renuka claimed three wickets for 23 runs, while Georgia took three for 25. Additionally, Kim Garth (2 wickets for 19 runs) and Ekta Bisht (2 wickets for 35 runs) contributed with key dismissals, resulting in Delhi being bowled out in 19.3 overs.

For Delhi Capitals, Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer with 34 runs, while only Sarah Bryce (23) managed to cross the 20-run mark. Delhi had a poor start after losing opener Shafali Verma for a duck on just the second ball of the innings. She was caught at mid-off by Smriti Mandhana off Renuka’s bowling. Skipper Meg Lanning struggled to get going as she scored 16 .  The  overseas allrounders  Sutherland, Kapp & Jonnasen could not contribute much with bat & later with ball

While chasing, RCB dominated the game and comfortably won in the 17th over. Smriti Mandhana led from the front with an breathtaking innings of 81 runs off 47 balls, smashing 10 fours and 3 sixes at an impressive strike rate of around 172. Danielle Wyatt also played a solid knock of 42 runs, forming a crucial partnership with Mandhana that put Delhi on the back foot early. Richa Ghosh (11*) and Ellyse Perry (7*) remained unbeaten, sealing an easy victory for RCB by completing the final rites .

Renuka Singh for her outstanding bowling was a justifiable choice of the player of the match .
