Yoga : Svastikasana (Auspicious Pose) - how to perform

Svastikasana is a traditional meditative yoga posture that promotes stability and relaxation. The name comes from the Sanskrit words "svastika", meaning auspicious or lucky, and "asana", meaning posture. This cross-legged seated pose is commonly used for meditation, pranayama, and deep breathing exercises. It provides comfort and helps maintain a steady posture for prolonged periods of sitting.

How to Prepare for Svastikasana

  1. Choose a Quiet Space – Find a calm and peaceful environment for practice.
  2. Use a Yoga Mat – Sit on a soft surface or mat to support your posture.
  3. Warm-Up Exercises – Perform light stretching for the legs, hips, and lower back to ease into the pose.

Steps to Perform Svastikasana:

  1. Sit on the floor with legs extended forward.
  2. Bend the right leg and place the right foot near the left thigh.
  3. Bend the left leg and place the left foot near the right ankle, ensuring the feet rest comfortably between the thighs and calf muscles.
  4. Keep the back straight, shoulders relaxed, and hands resting on the knees in Chin Mudra (thumb and index finger touching).
  5. Close the eyes and breathe deeply, maintaining this posture for a few minutes.
