James Peter "Jimmy" Greaves was born on February 20, 1940, in London, England. He was a prolific striker known for his incredible goal-scoring ability, clinical finishing, and agility inside the penalty box. Regarded as one of England’s greatest forwards, Greaves was admired for his composure, speed, and technical skill, making him a standout player in English and European football.

Club Career
Greaves began his professional career at Chelsea in 1957, where he quickly established himself as a natural goal-scorer, netting 124 goals in 157 league appearances. In 1961, he had a brief spell with AC Milan but struggled to adapt to Italian football and returned to England to join Tottenham Hotspur. At Spurs, Greaves became their all-time leading scorer with 266 goals in 379 appearances and played a key role in their FA Cup victories in 1962 and 1967. He later played for West Ham United before finishing his professional career in non-league football.

International Career & World Cup
Greaves earned 57 caps for England, scoring 44 goals—making him one of the country's highest-ever goal scorers. He was a key player for England leading up to the 1966 FIFA World Cup but suffered an unfortunate injury during the tournament. This led to Geoff Hurst replacing him in the starting XI, including in the final, where England triumphed over West Germany. Though he missed out on playing in the final, he was later awarded a World Cup winner's medal in 2009.
