India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy head to head history

As India & Pakistan prepare to clash in their next high profile game vs each other , we look back down memory lane to find out the past India v Pakistan clashes in the Champions Trophy history . For the record Pakistan is leading India in Champions trophy head to head clashes by 3-2. Pakistan won the first two clashes in 2004 & 2009 . India restored parity with back to back wins in 2013 & 2017 league phase but Pakistan hammered India in the 2017 final to take the lead head to head by 3-2 .

The 1st India vs Pakistan clash happened in 2004 edition at Egbaston  Birmingham where Pakistan emerged victorious.  India batted first but made a timid score of 200 with Rahul Dravid top scoring with 67 after India lost early wickets . Agarkar made 47 while Rana Naved and Shoaib Akhtar took 4 wickets apiece with penetrative quick bowling . Pakistan in reply were rattled early at 27/3 before Imzamam & Md Yusuf got together to repair the damage.  Inzamam got 41 & Yusuf played a fine knock of 81 to seal the win by 3 wickets despite regular fall of wickets . For India , Irfan Pathan took 3 wickets .

The next India vs Pakistan duel in the CT happened at Centurion. Pakistan batting first rattled up 302 /9 with Shoaib Malik scoring a magnificent 127 and again Mohammed Yusuf contributing 87 . Their partnership outplayed Indian bowling .

In reply India could not get a big score from any of their batters . Gambhir (57) , Dravid (76) and Raina (48) contributed in an avarage Indian batting performance but none could play the big knock that is required in a bigger chase of 300 . For Pakistan Naved , Amir , Azmal & Afridi took 2 wickets each

In 2013 Champions trophy, India met Pakistan for the 3rd time. Batting first Pakistan scored a below par 165 all out in 40 overs.  Asad Shafiq top scored with 41 in an otherwise low individual  scores in that innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 2/19 totally mesmerized the Pakisani batters with his ball moving skills .

In reply India reached 102/2 in the 20th over when rain stopped the play for good and India were declared winners by 8 wickets under Duckworth Lewis system . Dhawan scored 48 & Kohli was 22 not out

In the 2017 edition India beat Pakistan in group game at Egbaston by a huge 124 runs in another Duckworth Lewis verdict . Batting first India rattled up 319/3 with Rohit (91) , Dhawan (62) , Kohli (81 not out) & Yuvraj (53) scoring substantially . In reply Pakistan innings never got any momentum & rains didnt help . Azhar Ali (50) & Hafeez (33) contributed in an otherwise dismal performance.  For India Umesh Yadav bowled superbly to get 3 wickets .

The same two teams met in the final of 2017 and Pakistan this time avenged the earlier group defeat with a massive 180 run win .Fakkar Zaman who survived a dismissal on no ball from Bumrah got on to post a glorious 114 . Azhar Ali (59) , Babar Azam (46) & Md Hafeez (57) scored half centuries to take Pakistan to a mammoth 338/4.  In reply India was rattled early by a vicious spell of fast bowling by Mohammed Amir who dismissed Rohit (0) , Dhawan (22) , Kohli (5) . Yuvraj (22) & Dhoni (4) too failed to contribute.  Hardik Pandya played a belligerent 76 but it was too late to rescue India as they were dismissed for 158 in 30 overs to lose the final at the Oval by 180 runs .
