WPL25: Ecclestone pulls off a hiest as UPW win 1st ever superover in WPL history vs RCB in a thriller
The Women's Premier League (WPL) witnessed its first-ever Super Over on Monday in a thrilling encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women and UP Warriorz. The match, played in Bengaluru, saw both teams scoring 180 runs, leading to a dramatic Super Over where UP Warriorz emerged victorious.
RCB Sets a Competitive Target
Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women posted a total of 180/6. Ellyse Perry led the charge with a stellar knock of 90 runs, while Wyatt Hodge contributed 57 runs. However, captain Smriti Mandhana (6) and Richa Ghosh (8) failed to make a significant impact. Smriti was bowled by Deepti Sharma while Richa skied a delivery from Henry .
Last-Over Drama Takes the Match to a Super Over
In response, UP Warriorz reached 163/9 in 19 overs. There were no big knocks in UPW innings like RCB. Navgire (24), Deepti Sharma (25) , Sweta Sherawat (31) all made cameo contributions. McGrath (0) & Harris (8) failed again & Henry failed as a batter today . Ecclestone made a rapid 33 runs to ignite new hopes for UPW . Needing 18 runs in the final over with only one wicket in hand, Sophie Ecclestone’s heroic 33-run effort nearly took her team over the line. The game took a dramatic turn on the last ball when UP Warriorz needed just one run to win. Renuka Singh delivered an outside-off delivery that Kranti Gaud failed to connect with. As Ecclestone attempted a bye, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh executed a lightning-fast run-out in MS Dhoni style, ending the UP Warriorz innings at 180 runs.

With the match tied, the game proceeded to a Super Over. Batting first, UP Warriorz managed to score just 8 runs with Harris & Henry . Defending the low target, Sophie Ecclestone once again turned the game in her team's favour. She delivered a sensational over, conceding only 4 runs in six balls against Richa & Smriti , securing a remarkable victory for UP Warriorz.
