WPL25 : Gardner all round show helps Gujarat Giants to go past UPW

 


The third match of the Women's Premier League 2025 saw Gujarat Giants secure a dominant six-wicket victory over UP Warriorz. After losing the toss, UP Warriorz batted first and posted a total of 143 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing 144, Gujarat Giants comfortably reached the target in just 18 overs.

Gujarat's bowling attack, led by young spinner Priya Mishra, played a crucial role in restricting UP Warriorz to 143/9. Mishra delivered an impressive spell, taking three wickets for 25 runs in her four overs. Her victims were the big wickets of Tahlia McGrath (0) , Grace Harris (4) & Deepti Sharma (39) . Skipper Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin contributed with two wickets each, conceding 39 and 34 runs, respectively, while Keshavi Gautam picked up one wicket.

UPW lost early wickets quickly with  Navgire (15) too departing early . Next Uma Chhetry (24) & skipper Deepti (39) had a stand but after it was broken , Priya Mishra rattled the middle order with big wickets of Tahlia McGrath (0) , Grace Harris (4) & Deepti after which wickets kept tumbling . Alana King (19*) & Saima Thakor(15*) added crucial runs in last two overs to give the UPW score some respectibility but it was not to be enough. 

 

In response, Gujarat Giants chased down the target efficiently. Captain Ashleigh Gardner led from the front with a brilliant half-century, scoring 52 off 32 balls, which included three sixes and five fours. Supporting her, Harleen Deol and Deandra Dottin built a solid fifth-wicket partnership, scoring 34 and 33 runs, respectively, guiding Gujarat to a well-earned victory.

  China successfully defended their Golds medal in the men’s table tennis team event with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Sweden at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Olympics24 : Ten men India edge out Britain in tie breaker to storm into hockey SF

  India reached the Olympic hockey semifinals by defeating Britain in a shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, leading to a shootout where India won 4-2. India played with ten players for 42 minutes to secure the victory. In the semifinals, India will face the winner of the Germany-Argentina match. A win in Tuesday's match will ensure a silver medal for last time's bronze winners at the Paris Olympics. Following the advice of video umpire , Indian defender Amit Rohidas was shown a red card in the fourth minute of the second quarter for unintentional stick contact with a British player’s head. Video umpire Goyentzen suggested it was intentional, and South African field umpire Sean Rapaport recommended a red card, resulting in India playing the rest of the match with ten players.
