Rishi Panchami is a Hindu festival observed on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of **Bhadrapada** (August-September). It is celebrated in honor of the **Saptarishis**, the seven revered sages in Hindu tradition, and holds particular significance for women in some regions, especially in Maharashtra and Nepal.


Significance:


1. **Honoring Sages:**

   - Rishi Panchami is dedicated to the **Saptarishis**: Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadvaja, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, and Vashishtha. They are considered the guiding lights of humanity, responsible for preserving and transmitting the sacred knowledge of the Vedas.

  

2. **Spiritual Purification:**

   - It is believed that the observance of Rishi Panchami helps in purifying oneself spiritually. Devotees fast and perform rituals to atone for any sins, especially those related to menstrual impurities in women, as per ancient scriptures.

   

3. **Women’s Observance:**

   - Traditionally, women perform special rituals on this day to cleanse themselves of any sins or faults related to the menstrual cycle. In some customs, this is viewed as a day of gratitude and reverence for the Rishis who gave knowledge and guidance.

   

4. **Fasting and Rituals:**

   - People observe a strict fast on this day. Special offerings of food, water, and other sacred items are made to the Saptarishis. Women, in particular, take a ritual bath, wear clean clothes, and perform pooja (prayers) to the Rishis, seeking blessings for their well-being and that of their families.

   

5. **Connection to Agriculture:**

   - In agrarian communities, the festival also coincides with the post-monsoon period when people give thanks to nature for the rains and a bountiful harvest. The Rishis are remembered for their wisdom, which included teachings about agriculture and nature.


The observance of Rishi Panchami serves as a day of introspection, honoring the sages, and seeking blessings for a pure and virtuous life.

Manipur violence : Video of brutality relating to women in Manipur goes viral
