Myanmar Devastated by Cyclone Yagi , widespread floods

A deadly cyclone has wreaked havoc in Myanmar. Typhoon Yagi has caused widespread destruction, resulting in a high death toll. According to international news sources, as of Saturday, the death toll in Myanmar has risen to over 100 , with numerous injuries and 89 people still missing. However, various organizations claim that the number of missing persons is well over a hundred. Most of the casualties have been attributed to landslides and floods.

Reports indicate that Myanmar was devastated by landslides and floods immediately after Typhoon Yagi made landfall, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Severe flooding has been affecting the Mandalay, Bago, and Shan regions since Wednesday. Numerous villages have been submerged, and many people have been swept away by the floodwaters. Landslides have completely destroyed several villages, causing extensive damage. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise further.

International news sources have also reported that Typhoon Yagi has damaged 24 bridges, 375 schools, one monastery, five dams, four pagodas, 14 electric transformers, 456 electric poles, and over 65,000 houses in Myanmar.

According to reports, Myanmar has experienced record-breaking rainfall in 60 years, exacerbating the flood situation. Over 240,000 people have been displaced from their homes and are currently being sheltered in temporary camps. Rescue operations are ongoing.
