Indian batters thrash Bangla bowling after dismissing the tourists for 233 on 4th day of 2nd test
After only 35 overs were possible on day 1 & complete washout on days 2 & 3 , finally the Kanpur test saw a full days play on the 4th day & what a scintillating day it turned out to be in which 18 wickets fell and 437 runs were scored . India has gone all out to achieve a result & thus they introduced T20 flavour in their day 4 batting
On the 22 yards of Kanpur, the Indian team unleashed a storm with the bat, upstaging England's famed bazzball . In the history of Test cricket, India set new benchmarks for the fastest team scores of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs.
After Bangladesh was bowled out for 233 in their first innings, the Indians came out to showcase a new version of Test cricket and went out all guns blazing . Yashasvi played defensively for the first two balls, but what followed left the cricketing world astounded. Yashasvi hit three consecutive boundaries off Hasan Mahmud. In the second over, Rohit Sharma joined the onslaught, sending Khaled Ahmed’s first two deliveries into the stands. In just eight balls, the Indian openers set the tone for the innings. I the first 3 overs 51 runs were scored !! Kohli, Shubman, and Rahul in particular maintained that momentum. None of the players worried about losing their wickets.
Rohit and his team proved that even 35 overs (India's innings lasted 34.4 overs) are enough to chase a victory in Tests. Rohit scored 23 runs off just 11 balls before getting out bowled by Mehidy , smashing three sixes and one four. Shubman, who came in at number three, scored 39 off 36 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six. Yashasvi, the other opener, played a blazing knock of 72 from 51 balls, decorated with 12 boundaries and two sixes. Rishabh Pant failed to score big, getting out for 9 off 11 balls in an aggressive attempt. Virat Kohli, with 47 runs from 35 balls, hit four boundaries and one massive six. Even KL Rahul, known for his more cautious style, smashed a breathtaking 68 off 43 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
At 285/9 in 34.4 overs, Rohit declared India’s first innings. Possibly playing his final Test match, Shakib Al Hasan made his presence felt on the Kanpur pitch with 4 wickets for 78 runs. The one identified as the next Shakib in Bangladesh cricket, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, also took 4 wickets, conceding 41 runs. But that was the extent of Bangladesh’s bowling success. At no point could they slow down India's run rate. None of Bangladesh’s five bowlers managed to bowl a single maiden over. India had already surpassed Bangladesh’s first-innings score.
Earlier , thanks to Mominul Haque’s unbeaten 107, Bangladesh posted 233 in 74.2 overs. On Monday, Mominul fought hard to hold one end, but the other batters kept falling steadily. Mehidy's 20-run innings offered a glimmer of resistance, but the rest failed to handle India’s bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets for 50 runs, Mohammad Siraj claimed 2 for 57, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 2 wickets for 45 runs, Akash Deep got 2 wickets for 43, and Ravindra Jadeja took 1 for 28.
Bangladesh had to bat again late on Monday. By the end of the day, they had scored 26 for 2, with Ashwin sending Zakir Hasan (10) and Hasan (4) back to the pavilion. Shadman Islam (7) and Mominul (yet to score) were at the crease. Bangladesh still trails by 26 runs. Can the visitors bat all day on Tuesday to save the match? Under the fading light at Green Park, Rohit and his team hinted that they might become even more ruthless. At this moment India looks most likely to win this test .
